Folks, I hereby announce a screenshot competition for September 2012!

Each month from now on we will have a screenshot competition.  There will be a theme that you will need to follow in order to be eligible.

The theme for September is: Self Portrait
This means that your character has to be in the screenshot and that the character should be shown from the front.  Use Ctrl+Shift+H to hide the UI.

The winner will be decided by popular vote but the screenshots show will not have the name of the player who submitted it attached.  The name of the winner will be announced after the voting has been completed.

Rules for Submissions

• you must have an account on this forum to participate (kind of obvious)
  
• you must be a player on Ehmry Bay to participate.
  
• you must submit an unedited screenshot by email to thuley@ehmry.com
  
• do not reveal which screenshot you took in any public area of the forum (you can obviously tell your guild, friends, etc.)

Rules for Voting

• you will need to be an established member of the forum in order to be eligible to vote
  
• you may only cast one vote per month

The voting rules are especially critical.  Please don't go out and create 7493946301 accounts in order to rig the vote.  I'll figure it out, I'll have to ban you, and it ruins the fun for everyone.

In addition I will only allow established members to vote, the details on that are still being considered but it will be based on join date prior to voting and post count.

The Prizes
Gem rewards aren't available yet so the first place will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card.  The 2nd and 3rd place will be able to pick their user titles.

I hope that over time we will figure out a way to perhaps create a pool out of which the 2nd and 3rd place can be rewarded with gear or coin.  First place will always be some sort of monetary reward.

The Dates
Screenshots need to be submitted by end of day (using server time) on September 20th.

Voting will begin on September 23rd and will end on end of day (using server time) on September 30th.

The winners will be announced on October 1st.

You say we need to have our character in the screenshot but I've not been able to zoom right into a first person view so unless there is some way to do so aren't all shots going to have our characters in them?

LOL as true as this is I think he means the main focus should be your character! and if not, well it's whoever has the best screenshot of anything I guess GO WILD!!!

Yeah I didn't mean a self-portrait as in picture that you would get for your drivers' license IRL.

Basically the screenshot should have your character in it shown from the front and then the surrounding scenery should be such that most people will like the setting so much that they give you your vote.

Here's an example of what would work, although it's not that scenic:



The above would also work for other themes whenever we are going to have them such as "night", "bay", "cliff", and "waterfall".

While this is possible it's highly unlikely since I get to vote as well and I am not entering.

I have some experience with these contests and usually it's a fairly small set of folks who end up participating.  I would be surprised if there will be more than a dozen entries.  Should that really happen we will have to think of something for October because at some point there really is such a thing as too many entries.

This too is something that hasn't happened in the past.  The voting is public via a forum poll.  If we get into a situation where one large guild just dominates the voting then maybe we can think about not having consecutive winners but I don't think that will actually be a problem.

I would like to think that the variety of what people like will result in votes for different submitters each month and that folks will not just vote for someone because (s)he is in their guild but really vote on merit.

It does generally help to ya know... read the rules of a competition you're joining in. I'm just gonna assume you didn't read the rewards part either -that being said if that screenie counted an you won. Lmao x3. Just teasin ya.

Massive facepalm on my part. I read the rules yesterday, promptly forgot them and then posted like a jackass. Will find a new one. Although this pry killed my chances because everyone knows what my character looks like. DOH.

I'm currently just SSing myself anywhere I find nice, and am just going to select one to send in riiiiiight around the deadline
