So the new build is much faster and does not really encorporate the staff anymore unless you want it to. It is a dagger/warhorn build.
20 in curses. Traits III and VIII.
20 in Death magic. Traits IV and VIII.
30 in Blood magic. Traits I, VIII and XII.
Dagger/warhorn with what ever you want offhand.
Utilities are the healing well, the well of power, well of suffering and either well of corruption or well of darkness. It really depends on what you prefer and what type of enemy you are up against. Wells will be used directly on your location and you will be recieving quite a bit of protection along with all of the other benefits.

I typically use the well of darkness for heavy hitting foes, so they can not only miss a stream of attacks but also have a slower recharge on skills.
I use the well of corruption if I know I'm up against a foe that I can immobilize and one that uses a lot of boons. If you can't immobilize them or get them to stay in the well long enough to strip their boons, then you may be better off using the well of darkness or Corrupt Boon.
