Tonight I passed 1 million karma for the first time, and I have no earthly idea what I should be spending it on.  The only thing I'm really chasing itemwise atm is some ascended trinkets, but unless there's a way to convert karma into fractal relics and/or ectos and/or laurels or even just gold, I don't think I have any direct use for it right now.

I've wondered about those Lost Orrian Jewelry Boxes, but otoh if I'm going for a legendary (which I'm not at this stage), wouldn't it be better to just buy the shards etc directly?

Does anyone have any other suggestions about what I could do with all this karma?

If you will eventually go for legendary get the shards. If not the orrian jewel boxes are great. They have a chance of dropping lodestones (sell for cash) and the junk item that you get a ton of sell to vendor for 1.25 gold per stack. As a reference I spent 500k karma on boxes (keep in mind you get karma from these boxes and I didn't include that in the 500k) and had over 3 stacks so it's a decent money maker.

I busted my Karma on a Temple Armor set (Balthazar), but then again, that's the only thing I thought of spending my Karma on(though, I'm planning to get the Ebon Vanguard Shortbow for my thief, because that bow has the same skin as the EV Longbow).

Other than that, I haven't had the slightest idea of what I should buy with Karma, though the Orrian Jewel Boxes sound good.

Orrian boxes look like a fun way to translate karma into gold... it's a little like a slot machine, except without the free drinks.

Personally, I like messing around with builds. Buying/crafting exotics gets expensive. I've mostly used my extra karma to buy gear to help defray the costs. For example, you could get four armor slots of rabid gear (and all six trinkets) from Orrian temples. This would let you try out what it would be like to run conditions on your power Mesmer.

I outfit new characters. Making gear is expensive, as matthen said. If I don't have anything to outfit, which never happens, I'd buy OJBs. chances for lodestones, tonics, and that trash that actuall sells for an okay amount.

I'm not trying towards a legendary yet, so I blow most of mine on the Orrian boxes.  I get gold, and if/when I want to start making a legendary, I got Obsidian Shards sitting in my collection.  Other than that, it makes gearing alts a bit easier.

My thiefer hit 1m karma and I had no idea what to spend it on either. I ended up spending about 300k on orrian jewelry boxes just because the trash from the box gives you some money in exchange (and lodestone things, and other TP-sellable goodies). Really that's the only thing that seems... useful right now for karma.

when you open orrian chests make sure you have a 50% karma buff on, 50% more cash!

I had 1m+ karma the other day. Blew it all on shards because Balth happened to be open. Now I've got more karma. I CAN'T STAND IT.

I went through abotu 2m karma recently, just kept buying orrian boxes and chugging the karma I got out of it untill I was at about 200k remaining. Saved it for exo trinkets I might need that you can get from the temples.

Made a good bit of coin off that.

Like most of you I have spent a fair bit of karma on the orrian boxes, nothing near 1m, but they are fun.  I got a mini priest of balthazar out of one of them, so it seems like they have some really interesting stuff to get, the lodestones are nice too.  I would say get the shards for the legendary out of the way and then have some fun with the boxes.  You will always be able to amass more karma.

1 million karma is approximately the amount you need to spend on obsidian shards for your legendary (assuming you aren't using one of the other non-gold currencies to buy them). Three cultural weapons plus a mystic forge stone, which everyone has a lot of now, and throwing them into the forge might be a go, but I'd have to do some number crunching to see if it makes better sense than boxes.
