I'm only here to see how the story unfolds. Any self respecting leading man would do the same.

In a game where there are no exclusive recipes, there will be no profit in crafting. There is no way to circumvent this simple truth. Materials have value because some people like to make their own stuff, and because they can be leveraged to speed leveling (for people who are into that kinda thing).

I have every tradeskill at 400 across my various 80s (except armorcrafting) and rather than immediately sell what I've farmed, I store it until I have enough mats to craft various things. Then I simply look at those that would net me a bigger profit than if I sold the materials separately.

I am not this patient.

@Aazen: married with 2 sons (7 and 3) so I hear you ... though I do farm Karka while I'm waiting for dungeon groups on gw2lfg.com. I've been making good use of gw2spidy. I actually pull all of their data to a google spreadsheet and extract the information I want.
I've also kept track of what has dropped from the various bags I've opened so I have approximate drop rates from bags.
One of my sheets combines that information with current prices and tells me how much bags are worth on a sell/buy now or sell/buy order basis.
Another sheet tells me if I can make any money using the Mystic Forge.
It sounds like work to some, but when you know how to code, it's very simple, doesn't take long, and then all I have to do is look for yellow boxes on my spreadsheets and that's where my profit comes from that day. It allows me to be lazy :-p
When I'm at work waiting on something and not on the forums, I'm often working on my spreadsheet.

Thanks :3 I love it so it's now my icon for everything.
Also, I am so envious of your skills. I wish I hadn't taken two years off..maybe I'd know how to do some of that stuffs.

I am no formal training with code, and wouldnt ask for any of your time in these matter, but i am curious, do you use a google doc for your spreadsheet or some other software? the idea of having a doc harvest information from gw2spidy is novel to me and i am fascinated. I have been trying to just keep track of a few of my favorite items and it can be time consuming compared to the method you have described.
Sidenote:
I also love the Game of thrones avatar.

They also have some nice guides on how to leverage their scripts with your database. gw2spidy also has some information on this.

Once it's up and working again or I get something else set up, perhaps we could do an exchange of in-game gold for code to help you do better with the tradepost.
