Im craving a good fantasy genre movie to watch these days haha something along the lines of LOTR and The Hobbit, which to me is like more serious, sort of mysterious, deep and stuff lol

I'm feeling like good scenery, swords and magic, if only they had a GW2 movie lololol

Do you have any suggestions? :3

Yup, and then there was the Last Airbender or whatever it was called, extremely bad movie, but good special effects.

I hate to say it, but for scenery and a great fantasy look...

Snow White was pretty damn good.  That means a lot coming from me because I hate me some Kristen Stewart.

If we're talking grand-scale western high fantasy films, there hasn't been anything, in my opinion, that's topped LOTR. Game of Thrones, maybe, but it isn't a film.

If we're going to broaden the scope to fantasy in general....

Studio Ghibli films, like Spirited Away and Mononoke-hime, Totoro, etc.

Harry Potter.

Pirates of the Caribbean counts as historical fantasy.

Also, one of my favorite Disney movies is the Historical Fantasy, Atlantis: The Lost Empire. I loved it when I was a kid, but watching it now is even more entertaining, being a history student, I understand and giggle at all the references to the time-period the film is set in, as well as the attention to detail with the technology(and pretty much everything else), almost everything fitting the time-period. Disney even got the guns right. Yup, I could point out to you the guns used in that animated movie, and they're all accurate to the time period. Lol now I'm just fanboying. Most underrated Disney movie ever.

Oh, and while not necessarily a fantasy, but border-lining it anyway, the live-action adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin is extremely entertaining, and is probably one of the best cartoon/anime-to-live-action film adaptation I have ever seen (with Speed Racer coming in 2nd).

Pan's Labyrinth is pretty amazing.   Its subtitled, and not pure fantasy, but its pretty kick ass.

Y'all are forgetting The Princess Bride. Quite possibly the greatest film ever made. Inconceivable, I know.

I third the Rurouni Kenshin movie. It was fantastic. Since you excluded anime, I will refrain from those recommendations. I'm more of a sci-fi movie watcher than a fantasy movie watcher so I'm drawing a blank. I also second the Game of Thrones recommendation although that isn't all roses and sunshine. Wow, I really can't remember the last really good fantasy movie I watched (that wasn't The Hobbit). Maybe I'll think of something later this afternoon.

Edit: NOW WITH VIDEO!

Speaking of Rurouni Kenshin, THEY'RE MAKING A SEQUEL. And if they follow the path of the first film, combining parts of the anime/manga series and the "Trust and Betrayal" OVA, it's going to be amazing. Seriously, Trust and Betrayal gave me so many feeeeels by the end I can't wait to see how they interpret the rest of that OVA in live-action. :))

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the "Trust and Betrayal" OVAs, the tone of the of the prequel was completely different than the television series. So if there's a movie sequel, I would prefer they stay true to the tone and setting of the television series like the first movie did. No reason to go "Empire Strikes Back" in the sequel.

They had a flashback or two from TaB in the first movie;I assume they'll take roughly the same path in the sequel, so no worries for a sudden change in overall tone, just more flashbacks that happened in TaB which are relevant to the plot of the film.

OT: I forgot to mention Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Also, avoid Filipino fantasy films for now. Philippine mythology is entertaining and interesting reading, but film, no. Avoid until I do something about their quality: (I know it's an 80s film but really things haven't improved much)

The original name of this film is Lumaban Ka, Satanas.
