If you're truly confident in the quality of the game you've created and you're truly confident that people will keep coming back because you've made such a great game, then you don't pad your "end-game" out with days and weeks and months of grinding. Because you don't need to.
Time-gating is a mechanism you resort to only when people are blowing through the content and leaving, because its only purpose is to artifically drag out the length of content and prevent farming.
They clearly need to work on adding more repeatable permanent "end-game" content to keep people interested. This focus on temporary content that you could potentially miss if you take a break from the game, that's gonna hurt them in the long run. They make the analogy to a TV show, and the analogy fits: if you try to jump into a new show when it's already shown two seasons, you probably won't understand what's going on unless you see the stuff that came before it. Except in GW2, there's no "re-runs", ever, so you can NEVER get a full grasp of the show. That's going to discourage people from tuning in.
