In the spirit of Valentine's Day coming in a few weeks I'd like to welcome you to our very first Poetry Contest! The contest is simple! Write a poem following the guidelines below and post it here! The most fabulous, lovely, inspiring, and prize-winning poems will be chosen by community vote! (If you need help on deciphering the categories of poems click here!)


General Rules

• Post your poem in this thread!

• One entry per category per member
  
• Your poem must reference Guild Wars 2
  
• Entries must be submitted by Feb 16th 11:59pm PDT
  
• Voting will begin Feb 17th and end Feb 24th.

The Journey - By Jaedah and Syntech
In the style of a haiku

We dreamt of the day,
the mists of Azeroth - gone
Dawn in Ehmry Bay.

Jaedah, heart of black,
reviving undead to slay
Master of dark art.

Syntech’s arrows – sharp,
breathing life into his horn
the thrill of the hunt.

Together, we fill -
the emptiness of your heart
to fill ours with joy.

We are addicted to completing maps and hearts, and are thrilled to be able to call Ehmry Bay our new home. <3

Rhyming Poem

Look at that armor, spattered with blood,
Ruining the sheen of bright steel.
Trudging, weary boots covered in mud,
Hoping for a place they may heal.

Being a hero is no easy station,
And battling the Risen, so endless.
Each night they go, defending their nation,
Seeking the end of the deathless.

Hope is their power and courage their shield,
It's a journey for the brave, not afraid.
Envy I have for their steps on the field,
Hoping the success of the crusade.

A Limerick

The idling crowds he was braving,
To fuel his bargaining cravings.
A low price stopped his march;
Voice boomed 'cross Lion's Arch -
"BY OGDEN'S HAMMER, WHAT SAVINGS!"

EBay banners rise above stomemist
While invaders of either server watch pissed
As they lie on their backs
And gift us loot sacks
Their cries on the forums will be missed

Tomorrow is a new update day!
We scour forums to see what devs say
but its more of the same
and Scarlet's surely to blame
with her new alliances formed day by day.

Oh ehmry bay, Oh ehmry bay how i have dreaded this day
The Old ones are gone, The bold ones are gone
I never knew how alone i would feel, Never to heal, nor return they say
Sputniks, Darin even Flax and all the brains and brawn
have quit the game, or left the server
New Guilds rise and olds ones Fall, is nothing the same at all?
because the fourms are gripped with a strage fervor
We can be better is what they say, until DB hits us like a bowling ball
Run, Run! Back too the keep, this stratgey is enough to make me weep
Ehmry bay! Oh emry bay, how i have dreaded this day.
where did the good players go, i think we lost them, like marco polo's sheep
And When did we lose sight
Of what was our guiding light, our core?
We need a leader to rally the horde, so we may take flight
We arent Black gate i wont kid myself, but we can do better, we can soar.

Verily verily Ehmry Bay, the Mighty ones have gone away!
Earthy ties no longer bind, we’re loose to the skies, unable to rhyme!
Remember the good old days we know? Of course you don’t, this game only came out 2 years ago!
Alone in my castle of pillowey white, a majestic rainbow dares to take flight.
Go forth, young prism and return in December, so we might be nostalgic for things we don’t even remember.
Allow your  Courage to not make you wussy, be like Veragan, and not a little pussy!
Not alone can he fight this battle, this war, so hoist your keyboards and open that door!
Imagination is the land that we seek, go forth boldly my friends, this is not for the meek.
Salutations to all, plebeians and kings, you are all alike to Veragan, bow to kiss my rings!
Alight a great beacon of Wisdom the Wise, I don’t know who that is, Probably one of those Blackgate guys (slurp slurp slurp)
Behold my flock, the kingdom below, these are the seeds of success that you could sow!
Unless you stop being bitches and become more like me, the masculine leader that you all should be
Try not to be confused, you seem quite bemused.

Each and every day we fight
Hardened by tyranny
Monuments and memories survive
Retribution achieved solely through solidarity
Yearning to thrive

Because we stand as one
Acquaintances together in battle
Year after year until vile is undone

Limerick:

There once was a gods-fearing knight
who, once dressed in his plate was so bright,
when he took to the field,
he was instantly killed.
Hail the knight who ne'er did win a fight!


Acrostic:

Draw me into your heart of iron and stone,
inside, where everything blossoms,
vines crawling, children playing, life
inspiring knights to duty, the thought of home
Never perishing, never diminished,
island, oh, lovely home of men,
tossed by the storms, but never conquered,
You stand waiting for your heroes to come home.


Haiku:

the jade butterfly
descends with lethal kisses.
The mesmer just smiles.


Sonnet/Rhyme:

A Love Song For The Queen

If I should see you in the city streets
oh lovely angel, sent to rule on high,
who deigns to walk, a mortal on her feet,
a woman who belongs to aether, sky,
shall I not say hello, and turn my lips,
and bow my heart, a supplicant to she,
who dwells beyond the reach of verbal quips
who should, by all the gods, exist unseen
by mortal men -- for who can hold her heart,
this woman cloaked in soft divinity?
Why must we dwell together -- but apart?
Why must she walk on streets where I can see?

For I, of lowly station, cannot love
a woman so majestic, far above.
