The theme for October is: Shoreline
Deadline to submit your entry is: October 21th 11:59 PM server time (pacific).

Rules for Contestants

• you must have an account on this forum to participate (kind of obvious)
  
• you must be a player on Ehmry Bay to participate
  
• you must submit an unedited screenshot by email to thuley@ehmry.com
  
• the email must contain the word screenshot in the subject line
  
• the email must contain your forum name in subject or body
  
• do not reveal which screenshot you took in any public area of the forum
  
• only one screenshot per contestant
  
• should there be more than 15 entries Thuley will pick 15 to be voted on (see posts below)

Last time I was pretty lenient about it since it was the first time around and there were some issues.  This time your entry will not be accepted if it doesn't meet those simple requirements.

It is recommended that you turn the UI off using Ctrl+Shift+H but that's not a requirement.  My feeling is that the odds of winning are better if you turn the UI off.


Rules for Voters

• you may only cast one vote per month
  
• you must be an established member to be eligible to vote
  
• Thuley will only cast a vote should a tie-breaker for 1st become necessary

Prizes

1st place (most votes) will be a $25 Amazon Gift Card.  2nd and 3rd places will get to pick their own forum title.

I did contact ArenaNet for some support when it comes to prizes but received no reply so we are on our own.  I'd like to eventually create some sort of prize pool and I am open to suggestions on how to get that done.

Yeah, running the forum is cutting into my beauty sleep.  

So here's an observation and question;  In a knee-jerk reaction I added that if there are over 15 entries then I will just select 15 out of those that were submitted and only 15 will be voted on.  The rationale was that at some point there are just too many screenshots.  Let's just say that there are 50 entries and all are allowed to be voted on.  Then it's conceivable that there will be 10 of them with 2 votes each and 40 with 1 vote each.  Then what?

A smaller number of entries prevents vote dilution and makes it more likely that there will be a clear top 3 at the end.

The flip-side of this is that this competition is supposed to be a fun little thing to do on the side and if let's say 50 people take the time to send in a screenshot but only 15 are selected then the other 35 are pissed and say screw it the next time around.

Thoughts?

Well...how many entries were there last month? 12 or so? I'd say maybe don't put a limit on it this month and see what happens. Even with the small amount of entries last month, there were still only three with more than two votes.If it gets out of hand, I'd trim it down. As of now, I don't see any need for the limit to the amount of screenshots. But I am on the viewing end and not the receiving end. Do you think you'll get that many screens this month? If it does become necessary, then I'd say do what you think would be best. It might be fun, and a lot of work, but to have sort of small competitions. Say you get fifty, maybe do five small contests that last for two days, then put those five screenies against each other? I don't know. I would consider volunteering my time to help you out with this.As of now, I only work three days a week and have a single online class. :3

Since to enter you have to be an established member on the forums I don't think it will get that high anytime soon. once more people get involved in the forums then we may see this issue arise but for now it's chillax time

Question:  You say you must be an 'Established Member' in order to enter? However, in the Rules listed it just states 'account on Forums.'
Which is correct? and does the list of Rules need to be fixed?

It's the other way around.  Anyone can submit but only established members can vote.  This is to prevent folks from signing up just to vote and/or prevent someone to create fake accounts just to pad the vote.

Any thoughts about having a couple rounds of voting?

I feel like this would be especially beneficial if there were a large number of entries.  The first round would be qualifying, reducing the field to five or so screenshots, and then we could vote again from there to decide a winner.

Looking back on previous entries, this is kinda like Heylo's idea...a little simpler though

I decided to follow Heylo's advice and not actually put a limit on the submissions and just see what happens.

It's not even so much about the time it requires to set up voting for many submissions as it is about that there was barely any voting participation considering the number of users on the forum.  Like 18 people total voted.

So yeah, let's just ride it out and see what happens, if it is an actual problem then we can deal with it when the time comes.

i think you'll be able to vote. It's something like..you have to have been registered for 7 days before voting starts in order to be elligible. :3

You could but I am well familiar with the human anatomy and it definitely wouldn't count as entry to the screenshot contest.

You'll probably be able to vote by the time the voting is posted.  Those folks who advance to the "Established Members" user group are eligible to vote.  The participation requirements to get there are pretty low and you should be able to meet them no problem.
