Kraft Dinner or GTFO.

Also: Velveeta isn't cheese, and cheese isn't supposed to be a colour that can dye you internally. *nods*

I feel this needs to be quoted for emphasis. Emphatic emphasis, even. Velveta isn't cheese. It says so right on the package: cheese product. Not actual cheese. I will ram a brick of aged cheddar down the throat of anyone who claims otherwise.

I won't eat Velveeta for this reason alone, same with Kraft American Cheese Singles, or whatever the heck those things are. -.-'

. . . .until you have kids, and then try to convince them to eat broccoli . . . .
avoiding mealtime melt downs . . . .makes it magical liquid gold!

The fat content is a little high, but it is fairly nutritious, and I don't end up with leftovers :)

There is no excuse for having low quality or fake food in the house unless finances are a problem.

Real cheese melts just fine.

That goes for fake whipped cream as well. *nods*

Says the man who eats Poutine?

It isn't an excuse, lol, it is taking care of kids.
It is easy to be snobby about the food I make for myself, but when cooking for others their preferences matter too.  Kids like Velveeta, and it isn't like this recipe slathers it all around or anything.  It has a ton of vitamins, in an easy side dish, that involves no fights.  Nutritious food, is about the actual nutrients, not how nutritious something seems.

"Fake" food that was enriched, is in fact what eliminated Rickets, Beriberi, and Pellagra from most of North America.  It isn't fashionable now, but it is still safe, nutritious, and completely reasonable to eat.  People eat too much, but that isn't the fault of the food.

Home made Mozzarella is the best Mozzarella, but I don't judge people for buying string cheese for their kids.  If you whip your own cream, turning it to butter only takes an extra 5 minutes.  So why buy butter at the store?

I have been cooking for about 30 years, I have tried tons of things, and I don't bother to make things if they don't taste good.  Life should be flavorful.  I have made bread, butter, noodles, cheese, etc from scratch before so that it is natural blah, blah, blah, blah.  However home made bread doesn't actually have extra nutrients in it.  It usually has fewer since a lot of bread is enriched.

Not in Lasagna, I tried it, no one liked it very much.  Zucchini goes nicely in lasagna.  Lasagna also has cheese, and meat, so it can be very high in calories too.

Took something, changed it completely, argued your change.

If kids like Velveeta, it's because they were given Velveeta by someone. I'd be surprised if the same kids didn't like properly melted cheese.

And I'm not sure how you've confused fake food with enriched/fortified food. I'm not here saying that sea salt is better than iodized salt, or that vitamin D in milk is bad. What I am saying is that actual whipped cream is better than Cool Whip, and that a hot fudge sundae is better with actual hot fudge on it.

That someone makes something themselves isn't what makes it "better".

As for low quality, there are good wheat-based noodles and there are crap wheat-based noodles. Unless it comes to a financial issue, you go for the good not because it's snobby, but because of taste and the quality ratio of what you eat.

Kids get velveeta, cheez whiz, Kraft singles, or that sort of thing at ball games, school functions, friends houses, and all sorts of places.  They are not sequestered in the house, they go out and about in a lot of different environments. During the teen years it is often the mall, or other kids houses.  They have in fact also had other cheeses . . . . .

Velveeta is an enriched food, and a processed food.  Out of curiosity, do you also have a problem with Soy milk? It is also processed, and taking the place of a dairy product.

Good is entirely subjective, as is taste.  When I make this particular recipe it works for diabetic, Halal, kosher, vegetarian diets and the good ole boys.  People like it, so I don't end up with left overs, it is nutritious, and easy to make.  To me that is pretty good.  That was why I shared it.  You don't need to try it lol.

Keep in mind, kids don't need to conform to adult tastes right away. It is reasonable to have a kid friendly meal, with no greater reason than making a kiddo happy.  That means making what they actually like, rather than what you think they should like.

Except I didn't say anything about processed or enriched food - you brought that into the thread and assigned it to me. I said fake and cheap.

If you weren't referring to Velveeta, then what the heck are you talking about?
