I have mixed feelings about this.  We should get to see some actual gameplay pretty soon, so I'll reserve final judgement until then.  But I'm not hugely optimistic about it.  I don't think both Conquest and Stronghold can really coexist competitively.  Eventually the competitive community will settle on one or the other if outside forces like ESL don't push the community to one mode first.  My first impression of Stronghold is that it sounds a little too much like a Smite knockoff, and if it moves too far away from the frenetic teamfighting of GW2's conquest, and if Stronghold becomes the PvP staple, then I'd just as soon go play Smite instead... But like I said, we'll see.

Stronghold sounds to me a bit like FA in GW1, except it's two way; FA had the Luxon side attacking and the Kurzicks defending (Kurz ftw!), but with Stronghold it sounds like both sides are doing both.  Almost like a miniature EBG with only two teams.

The NPC influence will probably put off some PvP purists, but may attract WvW types in their place.  Not sure if want (not because I PvP because I don't, but I'd rather not spread the WvWers across even more maps than we now have).

The terrible things I did with my ritualist there. Waaaaaay better than what an engineer now could do.

So, as per the Ready Up from 5 minutes ago, they're planning to put Stronghold into the existing queues and let it just go to voting.  I can see why they want to do this, because they don't want to splinter the community, but this will just completely fuck the queues.  Courtyard has been a massive failure, and mercifully, has been removed from ranked queues, and Stronghold would face one of the same fatal problems.  Radically different game modes with different win conditions and such demand radically different builds and comps from the players.  If players can't know in advance what game mode they're playing, then they can't bring the correct comp.  This will lead to a bunch of terrible matches, where "conquest teams" get stuck playing stronghold and get rolled or vice versa.

Also, per their description of the mechanics/gameplay, all the full-on-aids Shadow Arts Thieves from WvW, which are totally unviable in current PvP, will be coming to Stronghold.  That should be a treat...
