Ever wanted to know which server is stronger in which timezone? Well now you can

http://coveragewars2.com

Posted Image

What does it do?

1. It runs a cron job to calculate the score in every timezone and the glicko2 ratings.
2. On reset night, it saves the ratings permanently
3. When the url is requested, it display the information contained in the database

For those that wonder, reset is at 1 UTC

Interesting. If it works as intended, it can be used to plan out more precise defense/offense doctrine during both peak and off-peak hours. Having an accurate measure of when our opponents are strongest and weakest can help a lot when we really want to be competitive in PPT.

The numbers are the glicko2 ratings. Glicko2 is a ranking system used in competitions to rank the players. The prime example is chess ranking.

Arena Net are using the glicko2 ratings to determine the strength of every server. Except for the fact that it adjust too slowly with week long match, it does a good job at ranking the servers.

Seems like average PPT tick rate over the three hour window would be a useful piece of data for such a tool.

I'm going to add the score in each timezone soon. PPT doesn't mean that much since you get a good chunk of your points from dolyak, sentry and stomps.

Well, only one day and it already tells us that our weakest period is from 9 to 12 EST which is also DB strongest period. Then AR get much stronger from 12 to 18 EST. The rest of the it is us stomping them.

@Grav Thx for the name suggestion. I'm still debating. Here's are other ideas :

- coveragewars2.com
- wvwtimezone.com
- wvwzone.com

Also, I would need some more friendly names for the zones. For example, 1 to 4 UCT represents 21 to 24 EST or 18 to 21 PST. I was thinking about nicknaming that zone "NA Prime" to make it easy for everyone to reference it.

Anyone got a clue which time equal EU, SEA, OCX and all the rest?

How's this (using UTC):

01-04: NA prime
04-07: late NA
07-09: early OCX
09-12: OCX
12-15: SEA
15-19: early EU
19-22: EU prime
22-01: late EU/early NA

Also I like coveragewars2.com :)

For names, I kinda like coveragewars2 also.

If would be nice to see some kind of formula of what you're currently calculating with variables define. Doesn't need to be posted here if you have an easier format to show it in. I don't think PPT Slein was referring too was straight ticks. I think something along the lines of Delta_Score over a period of time. I don't know much about Glicko2, but what you have seems okay. Like Fraani, what's the +/- relative to (i.e. what is determining this)?

I could throw out certain features that might want to be added during a beta (such has comparison of servers/ daily variation (i.e. strong start vs weak finish) etc.) version.

I mean straight up take the PPT for each tick in that window, add them up, divide by 12, and display the average.  Alternatively divide that average by 695 to form a sort of "percentage of map control" statistic.  It obviously doesn't tell the whole story, but I think there's definitely some value in knowing how much stuff does my server tend to own? in a given timezone.

Looks like it's basically the same thing you see on sites like mos.millenium (where it's listed under "Predicted Rankings").  The change is how much your Glicko2 rating would increase or decrease based on extrapolating from the current score.

This looks really great, and I think it is confirming some of our suspicions.  We need more people on EU Prime time, and on SEA Prime time.

Well, any mid-tier server needs SEA when facing DB.  But over time, this should prove a really useful tool for any server.

Yeah it's going to take a couple weeks of compiling data to get accurate reads matchup to matchup. Is it constantly compiling day to day, or is just basing numbers off the last 24 hours?

Added :

- Current time at top left
- Current period column is darker to make it easy to see
- You can now sort rows by rating by click on the table headers
