I know a few of the old oG gang ran. Anybody else?
Or you can post about your distaste for running here. That's ok too.

I stopped running a couple of months ago. Wasn't doing anything too serious; I had started a couple years ago and got up to 4-8 miles a week (2-4 runs a week, depending on how I felt). It's great exercise and I was amazed at the differences it could make in performing day-to-day activities (I have an active job and some fairly active hobbies I thought were keeping me in decent shape; running made all these things easier). However, I was finding it tough to keep my weight up, so I've put running aside for the time being and have been putting more focus into strength training.

I do mostly 5ks at this point. I used to do triathlons when I was younger (high school) but I've outgrown my bike and I've never been a really good swimmer so that is on the back burner for now. Furthest race I've done was only a 10k as I grew up running the 400 meter dash in college track and played football (I enjoy distance running but am much faster over short distances than I am over long ones and I am never competitive). My goal is to do an Ironman 70.3 next year after I spend the winter learning to swim more efficiently.
I hear you Blackthorn you won't keep your weight if you start running and don't increase your calories. Lucky for me I put on 30 pounds through graduate school, which I never put on in undergrad because of sports, so I need to cut weight.

Triathlons are awesome and it's a great community. If you look hard enough you can find some short easy ones that are great for crappy swimmers like me. I did one in high school that was 400 meters on the swim, 16 miles biking, and 4 miles running.

Hehe, biking's the hard part for me (only learned how to bike in high school). I feel like I'll be ready to do my first one before the year ends; I just need to get better at biking

I do a lot of P.E. stuff with the kids at school, so unless it is summer break I walk 10,000 steps or more by 3pm every day.
I used to do more hiking, biking, climbing, swimming, etc . . . but it is . . . 100F (about 37 C) With 99.99% humidity.

Really? How much protein in each of your shakes dv % wise, and what kind do you use? I've read too much protein can be as bad as not enough.

Straight whey bro! Scoop in the morning, Scoop at night. Hell you can do 3 drinks a day if you wanted to...I did in the military to gain weight. But if you take to much then what ur body can handle, you just get to shit it all out basically. Every body is different

But I'm not a runner. I unfortunately relegate myself to low impact fitness. But if I pack myself, You'd better believe I'll play DDR for hours on end. And thats as good as, if not better than, as a run any day.

Well, when you put it that way ... maybe I'll just stick to my single post workout whey drink.

Anyone else like to hike? I went for my first real hike this past week, not counting < 3 mile strolls through nature preserves. I bit off more than I could chew and it was brutal. Hiked this trail, which is about 9.6 miles and has a 1,900' elevation change. Could barely walk the day after. I was hoping to take a lot of video, but after climbing the first pass I became much more concerned with just making it the rest of the way. Luckily I went well-prepared. Didn't see much in the way of wildlife, which may have been a good thing. Signs at the trail head mentioned rattlesnakes, scorpions, tarantulas, mountain lions, and coyotes. I saw only saw a few birds, antelope squirrels, small lizards, and many hopping insects. Overall, cool experience, but next time I'll dial it back some so I can enjoy it a bit more.
Here's a few minutes of video if anyone would like to see:
