Totally unrelated to game, but is there anybody here with English as their first language that thinks "acumen" is a difficult or esoteric word?

Genuinely curious.

I had to look it up. Whether it is a word that I have heard before and just didn't take note of, I don't really know. I do like it and will add it to my vocabulary and probably look for a way to use it this week. But that may be due to the fact that I'm a weird "wordy" type.  : /

Hmmm, I didn't think it was a "wordy" word. I got accused of pretentiousness on the matchup forum and while I am totally pretentious, it isn't because of a word choice. :P

What context did you use the word?

"Acumen" is a common enough word. Some of the other words you use are out of left field. "Troglodytic and disconsolate" are words I can appreciate. But like Bishop I also had to look up "sycophant."

Rize Huk (Guardian), Grim Thor (Ranger), Tias Gaut (Elemantalist), Nani Rize (Warrior),

Rize Morrow (Necromancer), Tiewaz Rize (Mesmer)

A misspent youth reading high fantasy novels with throne room politics probably gave me that one.

I was surprised about sycophant, so with those two words I was pushing towards the absurd and making fun of myself a little.

Took me forever to think of Brobdingagian, and I had to go back to capitalize it.

Don't go all Shakespeare on people.  It isn't nice.

But back to the main objective.  Do not use 50 cent words when small minds are burdened.  Google can only handle so much...and some lack the common sense or the motivation to even utilize it.  Instead, post a link to your big words.  Let those lazy asses learn a thing or two.  :P

I don't encounter "acumen" very often (har har), though I wouldn't consider it particularly difficult or esoteric.

I was a little surprised about "sycophant," though. I would've thought that one was pretty common.

See, I thought both of them weren't particularly obscure, although nowadays I usually hear "business acumen" only and not 'acumen' on its own.

Fair enough, and thanks all for the replies. I rarely self-censor but I didn't think it was the vocabulary that made me a dick.

If it is a word you don't use in text messages people find it deeply confusing these days.

To be fair I have never thought you were a dick because of your vocabulary . . . . :P

That's kind of my point - with so many other reasons to choose from, knowing some words in my first language seems a poor one.

Well you seem to have mellowed a bit.  The summer seemed to treat you well.

Edit*** sorry about that I was multitasking and clicked a weird thing . .  .
Cat shark vs Tesla snake is the idea . . .but I will most likely get distracted before I finish it.

Haven't mellowed, and summer was nothing more than a hotter time of year.

Can't see the pic.

Hmmmm Rimmy's verbal acuity is rather piquant if not quite the same flavour as cumin.
I have barely resisted the urge to write something terrible . . . .
