You could put it on the calendar for the close date, that'll keep it right below the recent topics list.

I can pin the thread if you like, but it won't put it back into recent topics. Fair's idea might be best. Put the end date on the calendar and it should appear all week, (unless the event close isn't for several weeks, then it wont show up till the week of)
