Hubby and I have pushed it off and pushed it off but it's finally time to upgrade. Mine is puttering along but his died completely. I'm not much of techie. Anyone out there love getting into the tech side of things and want to lay out a new computer build for me?

It all really comes down to what you are using it to do and how much you want to spend. For example I just updated my system that I built five years ago to more modern tech with an I-7 6700k intel cpu, MSi Z170 M5 mother board,and 16 gigs of DDR4 Ram, I was already running more modern SSD's and graphics card so those three items were the main issues. Cost wise this has been in the planning for awhile. As to the build it is way overpowered to run GW2, but I do photo/and video editing for a hobby and wanted the extra grunt for editing in HD and there are a few games out there that I might tackle now that I have something to push the settings with. When building a system there are a lot of factors that come into play, If getting something off the shelf I would suggest looking for a pc that will meet the requirements of what you plan on doing. Hope this gives you some ideas, if you want to build your own system I'll take a crack at coming up with a build for you.. (hmm you could make it a contest on the server)

I do love contests.

Hubby took over the computer shopping from me though as he no doubt saw the harried expression on my face as I was trying to make sense of all these numbers (Have I mentioned I aced geometry but barely passed all other math related subjects? Yeah artsy fartsy right-brain here) and he took pity on me and took over the search when he was done with work for the day.

In 5 minutes (likely longer than that but that's what it feels like) he found an excellent deal at a computer store in town. Here's the stats:

i7-6700K Processor
NVIDIA GTX970 PCie Graphics card
16gig RAM
256gb Solid state drive
2 tb Hard drive

About $1100 for it.

Now we're going to spend all night seeing if we can hit our bandwidth and data limits.

That's practically the same as mine, but with an even better graphics card (mine's only a 770).  I'd expect it should serve you well, unless you're doing some pretty heavy-duty work/multimedia/gaming on it.

That definitely looks like it will meet most anyone's needs for computing, have fun with it! Maybe next time a design contest
