Build: http://www.gw2build....melee-8998.html
Video:
It's tough to see exactly how to play a certain build based on just seeing it lined out on a screen, so I recorded a 1v1 against Lazygurl who's a very good guardian that I usually run around and fight with. The build utilizes two 6-second damage negators (one invulnerability, and one where pet takes damage - you can hear him complain about that later lol). Every time I swap pet, I get two seconds quickness (for barrages or other longbow skills). Swapping weapons freezes him and slows him down. The traits all lower cooldowns or make it tougher for him to attack. The final utility slot skill is my extra dodge in case I'm in a tight spot. My ace in the hole is the elite which I try not to use very often. Basically it locks everyone in place around me for a good deal of time. I try not to use it unless I'm standing still and they are on top of me while I have some damage negator activated.
This build is centered around dodging and swapping weapons/pets. I get 50% extra endurance regen as well as 50% more for 5 seconds every 15 seconds from trait. So basically when fighting melee, the only thing that comes to mind to counter them (at least for me) is just don't let them get near you.
Anyways, that's my build. I hope you enjoy it, and I'll keep posting any others I make for necros/thieves/eles/engineers.

An old Cherokee was teaching his grandchildren about life. He said to them, "A battle is raging inside me ... it is a terrible fight between two wolvO

The old man fixed the children with a firm stare. "This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too."
They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee replied: "The one you feed."

For my traits i run 20MM/30WS/20BM. MM tree i take II and VIII(with bows in wvw you will do some insane dmg no.2 on the longbow im looking at you). For WS i take III/IX/XII the ability to null one cc and hide during another and the dmg reduction is really nice especially if they close the gap on you. BM i use I/VII.
For utilities i run Signet of the Hunt for the mobility/ frost trap for CC and that Cool Down increase/ QZ for insane stacking of CND my elite i run RaO the might satcking per hit on your pet is insane my Lashtail will get off 2k attacks and his F2 skill finishes at 5k with another 4k of CND.
The reason i use this build is our pets are a huge part of arsenal and to ignore them is just senseless. i use toughness based ranged pets as they have great CND and CC and they can take alot of CND from you.
I use Short Bow/Sword and dagger for CND and mobility they have a ton of evasiveness built into them and both have a slow and bleeds and poison.
Gear i run a mix of PWR/TGH/CND/VIT and a tad bit of PRE(enough to be at 20%) i run superior runes of the undead and for gems i run chrysacola and emerald orichaclum rings and earrings and coral orichaclum necklace
sorry i cant post a video as it takes my youtube acct an obscene amount of time for some reason to upload. the key to this build is using your mobility and CND to bleed your enemy out and make him so slow he can never touch you and on the off chance he closes the gap your sword/dgger will allow you to cripple poison and bleed him to deathl

Rhyad's New Ranger build
For PVE I open with Eagle and for WVW I open with Krytan Hound.
This build focuses on a strong opening and moderate survival for longer fights. At this time, the build (or my playstyle?) is weakest against Mesmers and Thieves. The way I play this build is opening with the Longbow and then switching to Greatsword to get close and personal (also to throw off the rhythm). Weapon swapping is very important and is used repeatedly each time it's available. The krytan hound is there for the knockdown. The eagle is there because I want to have an eagle (Circaetus) and its damage is good enough in PVE.
I feel like this build is basic and might be labeled as a good build for new rangers. The greatsword and hound allow the ranger two knockdowns, a stun, and a leap to get away from trouble in WVW. The longbow can be played like a caster. It's a simple and forgiving build for players who like to take it slow.

I've also got a new build in the works as well... A shortbow and sword/dagger combo based on constant poison (less effective heals) and shaking damage/dodging (kind of like my anti-melee build). I hope to have that one posted by New Years

I know this may not be what you are looking for, but I am spec'd as a support ranger for raids and as a commander specifically for WvW fighting. I'm actually vitality/toughness/healing, using stone spirit and aoe heals/water fields for groups to combo off of. I am a charr so I use charzooka for knockbacks and AOE damage with a longbow for barrage and an additional knockback as well as axe warhorn for speed and might buffs. I run this mostly because as a commander in WvW I find survivability to continue leading and support to try and keep the group as strong as possible and up as long as possible and knockbacks and aoe's to try and push enemy zergs back (also helps for clearing siege).

PvE/WvW version: http://www.tinyurl.com/menorahranger
Runes: Dwayna
Amulet: Shaman/Shaman
Sigils: Sword/Axe - Sigil of Geomancy, Torch/Dagger - Sigil of Agony
Pets: Fern Hound (active as often as possible for extended regens)/Juvenile Wolf
Skills: Troll Unguent, Sharpening Stone, Signet of Renewal (Sometimes switched with Lightning Reflexes for stun breaker), Signet of the Wild
Stats:
- Attack - 2030
- Toughness - 3200
- Precision/Crit - Base/4%
- Health - 16582
- Condition Damage - 944
- Healing - 959
- Boon Duration - 15%
- Condition Duration - 20% (30% bleeds)
- ~380 CONSTANT passive regen/second (120 from signet, 260 from regen boon)
- 68% bonus regen duration (+15 boon, +33 trait, +20 runes)
- EVERYTHING applies regeneration
- Troll Unguent heals 9700 hp every 25 seconds
- Swapping weapons deals 2400+ damage in bleeds (sigil)
- High condition damage combined with medium-high condition duration
- Very tanky
- Highly mobile, lots of evades, high endurance regen
- Can tank 2-3 players while still doing enough damage to kill them if played right
- Requires pet swapping and taking advantage of fears from juvenile wolf
- AWESOME for WvW
- Pet rarely dies (shares boons, and they are more effective on pet)
- Very diverse and constant conditions ranging from damaging to crowd control
- There are better tpvp builds for rangers. Traps work much better in 5-man teams.
- Low precision/crit chance limits choices of sigils and foods that rely on crits
- Mediocre attack means that you generally want to keep medium range from opponent.
- Will not be using sword 1 skill against melee-based professions.
- If pet dies, you are at disadvantage (nothing new here rangers)
- Only one stun breaker if you decide to use Lightning Reflexes... this can be combatted by using evade weapon skills when locked down
Do not let your pets die. This shouldn't be difficult since they have something like 600-800 regen/sec. Use your pet skills often. If you have trouble with this, set a new hotkey for them. I use my "r" button, but the choice is up to you.
Lastly, DO NOT CLICK SKILLS. Learn to play using your keyboard as much as possible. I click my elite but that is about it. You never need to click 8 and 9 (signets), so as long as you can click your regular first 6 skills and 7 skill, then you are good to go. I also use my left Ctrl button to heal rather than hitting 6 on the keyboard, but that is a personal choice. It's just easier imo to roll your hand a tiny bit sideways to tap it. Manually clicking skills is time consuming and you need to be able to dodge/evade at a moment's notice.
Video will come later. I haven't lost to anyone in 1v1 with this build yet, so I really emphasize the strength of the passive regen. Every 25 seconds, you heal more than your total health pool while still dealing massive damage.

Not following this part. Where are you getting the regen boon (aside from Troll Unguent), and what do you mean "everything applies regen"?
Interesting looking build, just want to make sure I'm totally understanding.

Pet applies 12s regen, healing applies 8s regen, taking any hurting condition applies 8-12s regen (20s cooldown), 5% chance for random 16s regen when hit, 8s or 16s regen every time you hit 75% hp (no cooldown.. you can heal over 75% hp and immediately reapply it stacked), etc etc... some of the times are not too specific, but the regens stack quickly and continuously throughout the fight
By the time you are done killing some random mob that is able to hit you more than a single time you have 30-40s
The 60% bonus regen duration comes from +15% boon, +33% trait skill, +20% regen duration runes. And now that I read it like that, I know I did my math wrong and it's actually ~70%.
