So nevermind that there is a Twilight on the TP, that was bound to happen eventually, although it is bizarre how someone would spend all this time to make one just to sell it.

What's interesting is that on the TP front page it is listed as 1,800 gold, but when you click through the price is 9,500 gold.  Does that mean TP front page prices are cached, someone listed it for 1.8k, someone bought it and relisted it for 9.5k?

Let's think about either of those prices for a minute.

A $25 gem card (2000 gems) can be legitimately traded for about 30 gold.  At that rate the 1,800 price would equal $1,500 and the 9,500 price would equal ~$7,900.  At black market rates you are probably still looking at $500 and ~$2,900 respectively.

It's highly unlikely that a legitimate player will have 1,800 gold banked, but let's just for the sake of this argument assume that someone did.  They would have first hand knowledge of how much time it took to acquire 1,800.  How could they possibly think that someone has legitimately 9,500 gold banked.

Looking forward to the headline that some dude bough $3,000 worth of gold from gold sellers, bought the Twilight, and then Anet banned his account.

I could see some rich guy saying "fuck this grinding, I'll just drop 3 grand on gems to buy twilight off broker."

The even crazier thing is that the seller was able to afford the listing fee of the 9.5k gold...and if noone  purchases it, he'll have to eat the 450g+ deposit to relist it. Hell I feel bad when I lose a silver to having to relist...

Well, It was bound to happen eventually. I knew someone on IoJ who had a massive amount of money, he bought 3k of ectos at approximately 28s each and when they sky rocketed he sold/is still selling them for a massive profit. So to me it is pretty believable.

Lol, so retarded.
Couldn't you make one for around 700g and a little bit of farming on your end? 1100-8800g to save yourself some WvW and Map clearing.. totally worth it. *coughsarcasmcough*

The highest buy order is at 1800g but its listed at 9500g.  If someone was to buy it they need 9500g or if some one made a second twilight they could sell to the buy order at 1800 instead of listing it.

Ah, I had no idea what the front screen shows buy order prices instead of the cost of items listed.  Guess I just don't use the TP enough ..., but even so ... that seems like a flaw to me.

They need to hang a banner over the entrance to the building in Lion's Arch that says, "eat fresh."

I don't really get why they made legendaries tradable anyway, seems like a total flaw.  The point as I see it is to have a legendary as an achievement of going through the trouble of farming up all the stuff needed to make one.  If you can just bypass all of that by buying one it does imho defeat the purpose of it being legendary.

You're looking at "Top Valued items", which to me says the items most highly valued by the buyer's economy, not the seller's. You can sell anything for any number of gold, just like you can sell anything in real life for any number of currency, but the true value lies in what someone is willing to pay for it.

Its not a flaw.  The Column is called Top Valued items as in valued by the customers not the person selling them.  Its always been like that and makes sense to me.

Its only if you view it like that I've always known you could sell them.  That really all comes down to personal opinion.

Anyway when you make a legendary imo you make it for yourself obviously there are going to be other people with them eventually so what does it matter if they bought it and or made.

Also you must step out of the Mold of what a MMO is "suppose" if you look at the game so far almost everything can be traded.  Making legendaries tradable  is there for those "Customers" that can't put in the extra time to make one.

Also I doubt anyone buys it for that amount it doesn't cost that much to make it.

TBH, I was rather surprised that it could be traded. The person who made it tho is probably going to regret having to put down the 500g to list it at that price when it doesn't sell ;3

They're selling Twilight on the trading post. Something tells me they probably won't care about the ~$500 g.

This was total user error on my part, I didn't recognize the "Top Valued Items" as buy order prices.  Makes a lot more sense now.

I am torn as to whether legendaries should be tradable.  On the one hand I don't agree with a class-less society where everyone is on equal footing.  If there is no opportunity to better yourself to set yourself apart from the crowd then society loses the drive to excel.  In GW2 you don't have to be good at the game to get the best gear, you just have to play the game.

On the other hand I recognize that the ability to shell out hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars of disposable income supersedes any in-game accomplishment because I value RL accomplishments (such as being in a financial position to just pay a grand for an Internet sword) above in-game accomplishments.
