Just got this note:

Quote

When inserting images on posts, certain image urls become broken. They either leave a link to half of the typed url ( rather than showing an image ) or show some broken code that you can see on this post- https://www.ehmrybay...__20#entry20845

The only way around it I could find is by changing the url of my image. Had to go from http://dl.dropbox.co...s/GW2/buixx-expressions1.png to http://dl.dropbox.co...ixx-faices1.png So I'm not sure if it's some random filter issue or not, but it's not a fun thing to encounter on the fanart subforums.

and could use some help trying to figure out when/how this is happening.

To those who have experienced posts where the img url breaks, which browser and version were you posting using to post the images?

I was using Chrome Ver. 24.0.1312.52 m as my browser. It happened when I was using both the quick reply and the full options mode. I didn't try toggling Edit the code mode though.

As you can see in just the quote, it even cuts off the typed url of my buixx-expressions1.png link right in the middle.

Hold on, actually went into the edit code mode and found something weird going on-

Posted Image

For some reason the strong ( or bold ) tag is showing up in the middle of my url. Trying to manually type in the image code to see if it bypasses the strong/bold tag popping up.

Aaand nope, it's not working even when you type in |img||/img| tags.

Posting characters like these -exp in a thread, also trying out -expressions in the same post.

How about https://www.ehmrybay...c/something-expressions.png

so it looks like the issue goes away if you don't have -expressions in your image name.

Yeah, I changed the filename to -faices to get it to work. It's still pretty odd that it tosses a bold tag right in the middle of -expressions... Maybe I hit the broken automatic code jackpot?

Just a buncha something-expression urls under the spoiler to see when it kicks in.

Could be an editor bug, will report it to the people who make the forum software and see what comes of it.  Thanks for pointing it out.

What was the file name of the image you tried to post?

Yeah it has to have something to do with the URL as a whole.  I think this problem occurs when there is a - character in the URL.  If you can just post the screw up here that would be good.

I think I just copied and pasted the picture... if I recall correctly I didn't link it as a url.  Hmm when i copy and paste it just doesn't show up.

Well I will have to apologise at this point it was my first picture in a post and I can't remember how I got it to happen now :-(  if I can remember I will let you know

Ok, that's different from the issue previously discussed in this thread.

You can't actually copy&paste images into a post.  The images need to be uploaded to somewhere the visitors can get to.  So attaching it work, or uploading it to http://www.imgur.com and then copy&pasting the BBCode line they provide works as well.
