Also yes.

Many wars ago when I was in elementary school, I had a teacher who would mention how Texans always claimed that their state was bigger than Alaska, and that it really mattered to them.

He would do this while we were colouring in maps of provinces, any of which are easily bigger than Texas.

Plus, there's that joke about an oilman going into a British pub and trying to brag loudly about how everything was so much bigger in Texas. "When I get into my car in the morning and start driving, it's noon before I get to the end of my driveway."

An old Brit at the bar replies, "I used to have a car like that too."

Not really, it is more that they measure the world in Texas sized Increments.  As in Germany is smaller than Texas, Russia is 24 times bigger than Texas, or Texas is 30 times bigger than New Jersey.
You guys have Metric, and we have Texas, it all works out in the end.





It is odd to live in a place that takes itself seriously though. In Texas when people poke fun at the state, Texans actually get upset it is very strange. In Jersey making fun of where you live, is half the fun of living there.  In fact people from other places tend to be less good at telling jokes about it.  You can tell when a person has settled into life in New Jersey in 4 ways.  They have figured out how to drive without urinating on themselves, they now call the beach the shore, they barbecue things badly either in a yard or park, and they also have funny things to say about where they live.
