Hello and welcome Katz. Welcome to the Ehmry Bay forums. Hope to talk to you in person sometime.

I linked the thread where we were talking about possible ideas in the gw2 WvW match-up thread but if you want to see what we were discussing here you can take a look at the following links. I'll link the replies that are probably the most pertinent so you don't have to look through the entire thread. Remind everyone that is coming in here none of this stuff is a 100% solid planned out idea. None of it is being proposed to take over WvW and how it is currently set up. PPT will be played for. Population disparities will be felt. Nothing we can do about that. But we want to make this fun for everybody and this is to figure out how to best do that. We will all be in T8 for awhile may as well get comfortable.

The "rules of engagement" phrase that keeps getting thrown out there is that server 2 and 3 should FOCUS server 1. Not that they fight that server exclusively. That is impossible to do/organize and would be absolutely terrible for the game especially with smaller groups and solo roamers. It is more that those 2 servers should spend MORE time in the 1st place servers BL and possibly even have guilds coordinate to fight the first place server and paper their stuff making it harder for them to obtain an insurmountable lead. Down here it may be tough for us but we would have a much harder time for one of our 3 servers to hold 1st place for an entire week. Also if we ever want to fight down larger servers when we are matched up against them it's the only way it can be done.

Again these are ideas! Feel free to rip them apart. Make them better. Or offer your own.

Not that I know of. Once they sign up for the forum I believe they can see that part of the WvW section. Leapordclaw from SF was in there during the tournament as were a few other SF people after the hacking allegations were made when they took our garri on reset night. The other subforums are locked. I may be wrong though.

I don't know. For me, it sounds good in theory but I really don't think it's going to work out. There will always be people that is going to do their own thing and if enough people do it then this is just gonna collapse. Also, where is the excitement of fighting new servers if we are always going to be just playing the same 2 every week and how are we going to improve ourselves as a server. Granted it's no fun when we're against higher tier servers but when you go in and start kicking butt for a little, there is always that thrill even though it is short lived.

If we're in 3rd in a matchup, I'm going to be focusing the 2nd placed server to try to overtake them.  If we're in a distant second, I'm going to focus the 3rd placed server to try to and keep us from falling into last.  I don't know about you lot, but I'm not content to just stagnate in T8; as far as I'm concerned, Ehmry is just passing through.  I want to do everything I can to drag this server back up into the T5-T7 range, and I'm going to be as cutthroat as it takes to achieve that; this buddy-buddy-bullshit with other T8 servers looks way too much like contentment with our place at the bottom of the ladder.

By "as cutthroat as it takes", do you mean to say you now support hacking, spying, sabotage, DDoS attacks, identity theft, and account theft? I mean, because that would literally be "whatever it takes". Or perhaps you mean more like, you know, just not being friends with the enemy, and playing with your friends, and ignoring the rest of your allies? I'm confused on your angle here, is why I ask.

This was never intended to inhibit movement through the ranks - it was sort of kicked around as a way to add some variety to matchups between the same servers that seem to more or less stay in the lower bronze tiers. Really, I was thinking of getting some bigger fights (because we get less of that overall) ideally between all three servers at the same time, but more to provide the kind of relationship that means if one of the servers gets an idea or issues a challenge, we'll be of a mind to consider it.

The best matchup I can remember in recent months was the one where EBay, ET and AR were neck and neck throughout the entire week - you had to log on and do something because anything could tip the balance! That was exciting, and I know that (the bulk of) my servermates thought it was a good week too. There's no disappointment in losing when you've had a good experience, and I want more of that.

And even though it's generally been my personal policy, that's where overtly shaping the idea of "second and third place hit first place preferentially, first place hits second place" comes from. Aside from not being douchebags and using superior numbers/coverage/morale to stomp the sever in third place, it also (ideally) helps keep the match closer which in turn hopefully benefits us all. We know that more people (casuals and fairweathers) show up when a server is doing well - what happens to those people when we're all always doing well? Might swell our ranks. Wouldn't mind trying.

Unless second and third are neck and neck, playing like that is just playing for mediocrity. Something else you're doing on your own shines through from the "I want to do everything I can to drag this server back up into the T5-T7 range" - you want? I haven't done a poll, but I'd be surprised if the majority (not that we're a democracy) of others who play WvW want to be dragged anywhere. Speaking personally, I'd rather rise to that level if/when we have the numbers, coverage, and skill to sustain it.

Maybe [Seek] is unified and he speaks for all of them in this, but we didn't expect 100% agreement anyway. The statement "will shit all over the RoE" shows a predisposition to troll from their leader, but I'd be surprised if all the members would flounce off to another server if it turned out that we extended the idea of inter-guild cooperation to inter-server cooperation so as to take down a numerically overwhelming opponent. And if they do leave en masse? Then we'll somehow go on. Nobody wants to confine people to where they don't want to be.

i havn't been to a commander meeting in AGES... because 1. i just recently came back from a year break, and 2. i'm always working when they have the meetings, BUT... we're dealing with the same issues you mention... we talk about how it's a better idea to hit #1 server, but then when we actually hit the field, we hit whatever.  and we have people like Slein Jinn who say 'no way in h*** am i co-operating with the enemy. red name = dead. hit everyone" so despite best intentions, whatever server is not the primary target gets hit anyway, they get upset and hit back (like last week's matchup on tuesday i tried to hit AR on my guild's wvw night because i was tired and irritated of them taking all 3 of our BL keeps, ONLY our keeps, and then leaving every night... like a big "F U ET"  they had way more people than i expected and it backfired on me, tho), and on and on it goes.

altho this week it might be easier to convince ET to hit SF... we has history and leopardclaw is an annoyingarse trash talker XD

Slein here is the thing. I agree with you I want Ehmry to not have to face off against ET and AR every week. I want all of our servers to have some sort of a rotation where we may be able to claw and scratch our ways to be on par with some of the other bronze level servers. However, in order to do that we need numbers. You said it yourself here.

Some people here don't want to post a recruitment thread on the official forums because they don't want transfers to come to our server. Some people here don't want to consider the "rules of engagement." Some don't think training sessions would be worthwhile because nobody would come anyway. So this is what we have.

1)More people show up when matches are close or your team is winning
2)If more people show up you have a better opportunity of convincing them to stay/keep coming back due to simple time spent in contact
3)Closer matches are better for everybody

I'm not saying the "rules of engagement" are a great idea and should be accepted wholeheartedly but instead of just chiming in to say that an idea is terrible and you may even leave if it takes a footing, help us out. I really admire your knowledge as a player and consider you a very analytical and level headed person. I also understand that the 3rd server could focus 2cd in order to try to climb to 2cd in certain circumstances. However, we have seen that Ehmry does not have the numbers to sustain any time in T7. We came out of the tournament in T7 and got crushed. We face Kaineng we get crushed. We face SoR we get crushed. We aren't even assured second as we fall off so much that AR who we beat by 80k this week beats us.

Think pre-WWII Russia/US relations. We didn't like each other but we worked together for mutual benefit when we had to.

Well, for everyone's information we ARE fighting SF this week, and effectively stomping them as well. It is obvious that we're not going to be stagnant in fighting AR and ET every week, and given that FC looks like they're being given trouble by SoR we may be able to stand up to them as well. We'll see how it all turns out.

I don't think he means that when he says "as cutthroat as it takes". I mean you are a well respected player in WvW and I don't think even you would think that is the correct way to go. You do things by the book and here are other people coming in and hacking and exploiting the game. That has to get your blood boiling too! I know you are very popular in wvw and you do have a number of followers when I see you run. You are respected by your followers because you do things the right way and don't give into the easy way. So in short, I don't think thats what he means even though he does come off really strongly.
