I guess you can build Tempests a lot more different ways in WvW than you can in sPvP--I haven't really given them too much thought in that context--and Tempest has been pretty much killed in sPvP anyway, but Reaper vs. Tempest was basically always a stalemate with meta builds and correct play from both players.  There wasn't really any kill potential in that matchup.  Anyway, Druid vs. Reaper has a lot more kill potential on both sides than the pre-patch Reaper vs. Tempest matchup did, but the Druid has the better end of it by far.  Basically, in my experience, if I don't lose in the first 10-12 seconds or so, I'm going to win.  The Reaper has to get a really good opening burst and bait the Druid to not get value out of Druidic Clarity before the Druid can start to get his own pressure going, as the Druid has more ramp-up time than the Reaper.  In a duelling context, the Druid might be able to just counterbuild the Reaper with Signet of Renewal as insurance for that eventuality, too, but I'm not sure if it's the best use of that utility slot.

Whoops it should be SoS instead of spiteful spirit. It was a remodification of ascii's build that a YT subscriber wanted me to run.

Reaper (condi) vs Tempest (with DS) given the reaper is running carrion which is the meta is absolutely no match for a tempest prior to the Jan. 26 balance patch . I played a Tempest vs. a Mist Initiative reaper in stronghold and it was too far one-sided. Even with the new DS, Tempest beats a condition reaper any day.

Like I said, it may be different in WvW, because you have more options for how to build, and you can probably put a lot more damage into the build by utilising Zealot gear and such, plus you're often fighting in places with less line of sight and shit in the terrain.  But if you're getting killed by a Tempest 1v1 in sPvP, you're misplaying.  You shouldn't be able to kill the Tempest, but Tempests have basically no kill potential in any matchup--you should be able to prolong the engagement indefinitely.  Then again, your builds have fewer tools for dealing with high-sustain builds and sustaining a fight yourself than the meta build, so maybe I'm overestimating you.

I don't usually subscribe to the logical positivist philosophy (I am a postmodern myself) but now it is time to use verification to make this theoretical assumption into practice or if it is a universal truth then I need to see it myself.  Perhaps you can show me how to do an elementalist matchup by using the meta Carrion Frostfire Reaper. I know someone from Woes who uses full celestial gear on a Tempest and maybe you can do a best of 7 out of him or get any Tempest main on EU to duel you. We can simulate the pvp stats too or something.. I know this is asking too much but can you include a footage too?

I'd be more than happy to fight, but I might need some practice first lol.  I've fought 1 reaper in a controlled environment, went 2-1 I think (it was a while ago, though).

I'm not solid enough mechanically on Reaper to be a good test--it's one of my least-played classes--and my computer certainly isn't good enough to record anything, but duelling a Tempest isn't that different on any DPS build.  If you can't out-pressure the Tempest's sustain, you basically just run around a lot poking at them when you can and turn it into a stalemate until someone gets bored and leaves.  Tempests have poor mobility and poor 1v1 pressure, but they have very high sustain and a lot of node pressure.  Don't stand in their shit, don't fling projectiles into their reflects (not really a big Reaper problem anyway), and don't hit their Frost Auras too many times and they can't really do much to you, though.  

Maybe watch VoD's on Noscoc's stream.  He's certainly fought plenty of Diamond Skin eles on-stream--I'm sure at least a few of them managed to give him good fights, although he has a tendency to switch to a Cele build with main-hand Dagger and just outplay and kill them a lot of the time from what I've seen.  

I guess now in sPvP you'll use Mercenary's Amulet regardless of what weapons you're running, and with the buff to Sceptre, the nerf to Diamond Skin, and the lack of good amulets for Tempests, you may not need Dagger to counter-build Tempests anyway.  I can't say for certain--I've hardly touched the new patch this week so far.

Well that's the benefit of having a Druid player who's fought the matchup hundreds of times in your corner. :-)

So is this still viable? I haven't done any new build on any character in like a year, and with the nerfs to some of the scrapper builds I dunno whats viable for anything anymore.
