That would be me (plus others, Thuley for one).
Since scamming and stealing is allowed in Eve - if not outright encouraged - practically everyone does it. And because it's so commonplace, there is no social stigma for doing it. In fact quite the opposite, many are congratulated on the forums if their heist is sufficiently impressive.
Some are independent and do it for the lols, some are affiliated with an alliance and will infiltrate a corp in an enemy alliance not just for the obvious intel benefits, but can also rip off the opposing alliance once they have gained their trust to a sufficient degree. Since currency is so easy to acquire in Eve these days, more often than not wars are won and lost on morale. So a decent corp/alliance theft can be quite influential on the game, particularly since everyone operates on the same persistent server and the PvP doesn't reset every week like it does here.
How does one protect against thieves in Eve? A couple of ways: you can restrict people from getting in for starters. Typically a new applicant to a PvP corp will have to do things like submit their API key (which lets other people check their transaction history among other things), send screenshots of all their alts at the character select screen, they must already know and have the support of 2 or 3 people in the corp, must be endorsed by leaders from their previous corp(s), must have a decent killboard record and so on. PvE corps otoh are far more casual, they're typically after numbers first and foremost so they'll take anyone, which makes them much easier to infiltrate. Show up and mine with them for a few days and they'll give you access to everything after a week etc.
Another method of protection that's often overlooked is to simply not store your most valuable assets in the corp hangar (Eve's guild bank). Many serious corps will keep their most valuable stuff on alts of the corp leaders, so the only way that stuff is getting pinched is if you somehow get the login details of that account. The corp hangar/guild bank can just be used for everyday stuff anyone can find useful, yet isn't worth a massive amount in terms of currency. In Eve this might be tech 1 ships/mods/ammo, in GW2 this might be rare drops up to 79 for people levelling alts, non-superior runes or whatever.
TLDR: just be sensible about who you let in, keep your most valuable things stored on alts/mules rather than the guild bank, and accept that every now then you might occasionally lose some random gear at worst.

Regardless i think you have missed the purpose of this thread.
This thread is not intended as a means of stamping out bank theft, it is a way to identify the players who are known bank thieves so that other guilds can be weary of them.
This serves two purposes.
First it gives prudent guild leaders a chance to spot a thief before they strike.
Second it serves as a deterrent for potential thieves. The 1 gold worth of vendor trash you might get from robbing a guild might not be worth the chance of being shunned from every other guild on the server.
I would hate to say nothing about these people and let them go on ripping guilds off knowing i could have helped stop it.

The best thieves will use alts and possibly trash the characters afterwards.

That's actually the cool thing about GW2, you can't escape your account ID. So unless you want to buy the game again it sticks with you. Now, if you steal 100+ gold worth of stuff then you come out ahead even if you have to buy the game again, but anything short of that is a losing proposition.

Thats why we place more emphasis on the account id than the character name.

I'm going to have to restrict all members to the smaller section of our bank and treat them like a bunch of fucking children because of the actions of a few cow pats. Really didn't want to do that.
Anyway this offender's account name is: James Owens.3029 (Ruby Jones)

Actually, if you're from a US server, you still come up $20 short to buy a new account. 100g cost $40. I wouldn't even bother imo, but some people are just stupid I guess.

The current gem:gold ratio of the last 5 days shows that the highest 100 gems has gone is 1.39g. Therefore, to achieve 100g you have to buy upwards of 7,000 gems. Considering 4,000 gems goes for roughly $50US, and the game can be purchased from Best Buy at $49.99 his original assumption that you come out ahead is very viable. Now, if you are insinuating that 100g can be purchased from a "less reputable" source that would go against the Agreements that prohibit outside purchases of gold, well then that is something entirely different and purely on the ethics of the person doing said purchasing. So in summation, Thuley is correct in saying that they would actually come out ahead. This is just purely from a mathematical perspective.
