Character Name: Diegovich
Class: Engineer
I was supposed to be writing my daily story for my Project 365, but then I stumbled upon this thread.
This is fairly long, and I made it a point to stay completely within the universe. Sorry, I write Fanfiction so here goes...
The eldest child and son of a Krytan Father and an Ascalonian Mother, Diegovich was born and raised in the Salma district of Divinity's Reach. Diegovich's mother died when Diegovich was still young and her sister still a baby. His father raised him alone, occasionally taking him out hunting on the plains of Queensdale, where Diegovich became a highly skilled marksman with the rifle. He hunted boar, moa, and even bandits, working for some time as a bounty hunter for the Seraph.
Despite being a commoner, he was afforded an education, where he discovered his natural skill at mathematics and the sciences. Eventually, he was accepted in the Divinity's Reach College of Engineering, and even traveled to Rata Sum for some time to study even more. Several years into his stay at Rata Sum, though, he decided that labs, books, and libraries were not for him, and he wanted to use his engineering skills actively and help people around the world, so he packed his inventions and kits, picked up his modified rifle, and prepared to venture out.
Unfortunately, before he could begin his adventure of Tyria proper, which was in dire need of assistance due to the threat of Orr, he received news of a massive centaur offensive that was ravaging the lands of Kryta. The Centaurs had renewed their ancient war with the humans. He abandoned his journey, and headed straight home, where he was conscripted into the Seraph's milita to fight as a rifleman. He was shipped to the frontlines in the Harathi Hinterlands, the northernmost part of Kryta, where the Centaurs poured out like water from a broken dam. He knew how to kill, but this was war. This was different. The centaurs charged en masse, and though his rifle slayed a number of centaurs, the fear and carnage of war took him over and he and many others abandoned their posts. After that fateful day, the centaurs spewed like a tidal wave out of the Hinterlands and began molseting the northwestern Gendarran Fields. Diegovich was part of the Army of Seraph, Lionguard, and Milita that held the line at Nebo Terrace for weeks, piling thousands of stacks of dead Centaur carcasses all around what is now known as The Bloodfields, north of Nebo Terrace.
Diegovich became accustomed to the violence, and deemed that the war was a useful experience, one that would prepare him for his eventual journey across all of Tyria, where far worse terrors awaited him.
While Nebo Terrace held its ground, several other defensive lines fell to the centaurs, causing the Harathi tribes to penetrate deep into the Kessex Hills, opening the way for the Tamini tribes to launch an offensive at Queensdale and Divinity's Reach itself.
Diegovich was granted a transfer to Queensdale for his actions at Nebo Terrace, and he rushed with all haste there to see to his Father. He was too late. His father had been killed in a raid on the Shire of Beetletun, which he was visiting at the time. His sister, who was a formal member of the Seraph, had disappeared. By the time he arrived, the Seraph had pushed back the Tamini, but the damage had already been done. He gave his father a proper burial, and wept at the thought of having to live probably never knowing what happened to his younger sister. He left the Seraph's Milita and returned to his home in Divinity's Reach, occasionally drinking his days away at the Salma District tavern, or firing aimlessly in the shooting range.
Word reached him though that the Tamini had renewed their offensive and had breached all the way into Shaemoor. He realized that though he couldn't help his family anymore, he could prevent the same from happening to others. He was still an adventurer, and he would nobly go out and fight the evils that threatened Tyria. On that rainy night, he again took up his backpack of gear, and his father's old pistol, and just out of the Divinity's Reach gate, he saw the centaurs pillaging and killing the village of Shaemoor.
Now the story of Diegovich has truly begun.
Questionnaire:
1. What is their full name?
Vincent Diegovich Arovsky Magellus
2. What is their title, rank, or nickname? How did they get it? He is known by his second name, Diegovich, and was a Rifleman Sergeant in the Seraph Citizen Militia
3. Fight or Flight? Why? More often than not, he will fight, but he knows how to weigh the risks and chooses flight when necessary. He will never fight to the death unless something is truly worth dying for.
4. What was their education like? He went to the College of Engineering in Divinity's Reach, where he excelled, and studied for a time in Rata Sum.
5. How do they view time? (Obsessing over the past, worrying about the future, etc) His experiences have taught him how to move on. The past is done, and nothing can change it, but he never forgets the past, as it serves as his guideline for how to better the future.
6. How do they express love or affection to others? A noble heart and kind deeds. The losses he had experienced in life have taught him to always show your true feelings to people, as they may not be around the next day.
7. How do they express dislike or hatred to others? How do they show hatred for an ally or other undesired companion? He finds the best solution to a problem like this is to confront it directly and honestly, discussing differences and attempting to put them aside for the common good. Quick fixes like lies will only tear people further apart.
8. How do they react when others express love or affection to them? If they like them back? He would deeply appreciate any affection given to him, though he usually just expresses it through a smile. If he likes the other one back, he would return the love threefold as much was given to him.
9. How to they react when someone expresses hatred of a dislike for them? If it’s someone they trust or respect? He always respects the opinion of others unless it's blatant hate. He will not stop trusting or respecting a person whom he trusts/respects because of that person's dislike. Given his past and what he has done before, he failed his family and his country many times over and he accepts that and moves on.
10. Why do they fight? Do they enjoy violence or do it for a cause? Diegovich learned to enjoy the heat of pitched battle during his tour in the Centaur War, but he never fights without cause. He loves his country of Kryta very much and is willing to fight for it. When he is thrust into the bigger conflict where all of Tyria is threatened by the Elder Dragons, he immediately and zealously jumps to help.
11. How do they react to uncomfortable, dangerous, or awkward situations? He tries to lighten the mood and try to make himself or others laugh, unless the situation involves death of comrades or innocents.
12. How old are they? Does their age affect their ability to act honestly? (Are too young to make decisions, senile, etc) He is 23 at the beginning of Guild Wars 2. He is in very good shape. He is young, intelligent, and headstrong. He has no struggles in his ability to take action.
13. Do they have any heartfelt beliefs that can obstruct progress? (A religious zealot with strange customs, taken a vow of silence, etc) None. Progress is his heartfelt belief.
14. Are they a social deviant or outcast? What alienates them from the norm? He is fairly sociable for an engineer who loves his guns, turrets, and explosives. He likes people: meeting them, befirending them, etc.
15. How do they respond to orders? If it’s someone they respect? If someone they don’t respect? He responds to the order and not to the person giving the order. If they order is a good order, it will not matter to him if he does not respect the giver of the order; he will carry out the order because it is a good order. If he views the order as irrational, he will question the order.
16. Do they have any racial, lifestyle, gender, or other xenophobic tendencies that make them disrespect or distrust others? Were they raised by this belief? He is strongly heterosexual and prefers fellow humans. He has a deep respect and fascination, though, for the Asura and Charr, because of their technology and engineering achievement. He hates Centaurs with a passion.
17. How do they greet a friend? That would depend on how long the friend had been out of contact.
18. How do they greet a foe? With the respect they are due.
19. Do they have any unsettling habits? He fixes and cleans his equipment too much.
20. Do they have any overpowering fears? Large Deep Sea Creatures
