A guy I had a crush on in 8th grade played guildwars 1, so I decided I would check it out to have an upper hand on all the other girls. Dated that guy for a few months in highschool, but gave guild wars years of my life.

[EDIT] Everyone is going so in depth..soooo. I played GW1 from 8th grade through highschool as much as my crappy computer and internet would let me. I dabbled in EQ2 and then my senior year of highschool, my friends convinced me to play WoW. I played through my sophomore year of college on and off. Didn't get a max level until Sophomore year haha. Ret pally, aw yeah! I stopped playing near the beginning of my junior year of college, and also took time off college. You'd think I'd play more, but nope. Instead, I survived on the GW2 Beta Weekend events during what would have been my senior year of college. TADA

I got into Online Gaming way back when I was in Elementary school (so long ago!). . . I remember the popular thing everybody was playing was Club Penguin. . . So I made an account and played. Yet being me and not having many irl "friends" at the time. . I spent a lot of time on that game. Then it was Runescape, then uh. .  A lot of other games. It was only until like 8th grade when I got steam and then started socializing with some friends from school by playing Team Fortress 2. . . Then I played WoW. And One of my close friends said "HEY BRO PLAY GUILD WARS 2." After a week or two I bought Guild Wars 2 and joined him. And then he ditched me to play League of Legends. . . Then I officially quit WoW and now Gw2 Is my Home. So many games ;_;

So the Moral of the story is. . . WHO NEEDS FRIENDS WHEN YOU HAVE ONLINE GAMES. :3

After reading these post I come to the conclusion that I am old.
For me it started with old HTML 1.0 games days of geo city, AOL 7.0 CD's on a 56k connection.   This was words with friends. Than it went IRC chat word games,  java script games, java games.  A good friend got me into my first MMORPG via. Telnet and mud / major mud games. I tried a few but necromium was the main one.  From That i got into FPS half life, counter strike when it was alpha stage.(   Ce.dust And mansion)and unreal tournament.  From That point I tried phantasy star online for Sega saturn, than game cube, and Mario go kart online for game cube( hacked game cube to do online over WiFi) from than it was Lots of FPS games.  Brother and I always liked final fantasy games. So when we heard online we both jumped.  Loved FFXI 6 good years.  A good friend of mine who We always grouped up and talked on the phone.  She got GW1. So for a long time she asked me to join her and one pay day I got it and loved it. 3years later between FFXI and GW1.  Work changed nee people rolled in and most played WOW. So I tried it for 5years.  Than. Diablo1,2,3 starcrafts 2, Slowly faded out from wow and waited for PS2.   I tfiend a few free to play MMOgames but nothing major.   Minecraft Xbox and pc, and other XBox online games halo,  battlefield, COD, And settlers of contain Online.     That pretty much my history from start to Finish.   Sorry old laggy tablet and keyboard making it hard to type.

Adventure Quest (that turn based flash game) got me into Fantasy RPGs. I think Ragnarok was the first 'MMORPG' I've ever heard of, but never got around to playing that, though reading about it seemed fascinating. Ever since, I've had a desire to play an MMORPG, and throughout the following years, I've been searching far and low for an MMO for me. I played ALOT of MMOs, but none of them really stuck. Until I found Guild Wars 2.

I've never paid for an MMO before, and the fact that this "simplified" a lot of things, making it friendly to hardcore and casuals alike made it interesting(Me, in particular, because I've never liked complicated RPGs, being a shooter/action/adventure gamer for the most part). It changes a lot from the many other MMOs I've played, and that made me want to buy it, so I did.

I do not regret it one bit.

My irl friend wouldn't stop talking about gw2 coming out and kept showing me trailers and I decided to hop on the boat when it released. And then one month later he ditched me.... But I've already gotten addicted and am still here today! And then he goes I would never of thought ur this hardcore ... Im like *facepalm* dude u screwed me over LOL and then I tell him about my shiny gear and awesome war stories in the game lololol

I was never much of a PC gamer so the first MMO is played for any extended period of time was Monster Hunter on the PS2 (sure not your typical MMO style but I say it still counts) followed by Phantasy Star Universe which consumed much of my life! After I was done with PSU I finally started getting into PC gaming and hopped onto Final Fantasy XI for about a year. I never played Guild Wars and was not in the least interested in GW2, but a group of friends were having a a GW2 release party on the 3 day head-start and told me to just buy it and play with them. I was hesitant, but gave in and said screw it... I'm sure glad I did because this game is great and I've met some pretty cool people. I'm the only one of my IRL friends that still play this game lol.

I bought my first modem in 1995, a 14.4k beast that I used to regularly play a door game called Tradewars via the local BBS.  Didn't get proper internet access for another year, but it wasn't for several more years until I started playing any other online games seriously, I was just terrible at everything, FPSs, RTSs, the lot.

The next online game I got into was EVE Online in 2004 with my circle of RL friends.  It was fun for a couple of years until too many people realised that there were pretty much no consequences to being a complete fucknut to everyone around you, so before long everyone started acting like fucknuts to each other and it didn't take long for that to get old.

After having paid a monthly sub to be surrounded by fucknuts for a few years, I was determined to find another game that {a} actually had rules about griefing, and {b} didn't come with a monthly sub.  Around 2008 I discovered the original Guild Wars (Prophecies), and soon after completing that I bought the trilogy and then EotN.  Between other games (like Oblivion and Skyrim for example) GW1 managed to hold my interest on and off until early last year, when I finally earned my GWAMM and 50/50 HoM...

...which of course led me here to GW2.

Awwwh, Don't worry. You're only as old as your Character looks. (Hopefully your character doesn't look old, or that'll be an insult rather than a compliment!)

Real Life - The Grapics are Top Notch. The Gameplay however. . . I've seen much better

YES.

BBS door games was where I also got my start in online gaming. Mine was Legend of the Red Dragon (LoRD) before moving on to other games like the aforementioned Tradewars and others I can't remember anymore. That led to playing MUDS like SWMUD which I played for several years.

That naturally led to me playing my first graphical MMO, Star Wars Galaxies which I still love to this day (RIP). The MMO that meant the most to me was Final Fantasy XI because it was the first community I gave myself to, the one I spent the longest time playing and the one with the most memories both good and bad. After that, I've played many different MMOs off and on but nothing will ever capture my heart like SWG and FFXI did. I was encouraged by a couple of my FFXI friends to play GW2 because it would better fit my time constraints now that I no longer have hours of free time on my hands. I expect to be playing MMOs for some time as I like to try different types of games from time to time.

Let's see...It all started on a Naruto fan-forum, back in 2006.  I made a few really awesome friend there (I was 16), and a couple of years later, when I was "old enough" to have full internet access, those friends dragged me with them to a F2P MMORPG called Perfect World International, where I began somewhat addicted, played for 3 years, and met my current boyfriend (also of 3 years, lol).

Then once I got tired of that game, I bought GW1...played for a couple of months, tried out TERA, didn't like it...then waited for GW2.  xD  And here I am.

Friggin Club Penguin...

Anyways, I started playing FFXI on my 360 while I was in said college, guess I should have spent more time inventing the next Club Penguin :P

Im not on the server anymore. Deal with it.

Yeah, it was a lot of fun til you realized the devs didn't give a hoot about you or what you wanted...like bug fixes.  The whole APS things was pretty shizzy, too...but they've seemed to balanced that out, which is good...but it's still VERY pay to win.
