WARNING: I DO NOT KNOW IF YOU CAN PURCHASE IT AS AN "UPGRADE". IT CURRENTLY GIVES YOU HEART OF THORNS AND THE BASE GAME FOR 50 Read Above, 50$ is the expansion, comes with base game free for new people. I admit I splurged and got ultimate.

Base game included or not, $50 is borderline obscene considering the standard base game went for $60 at release...although I might be an idiot and get the ultimate version anyway because COLLECTOR'S STUFF I'LL NEVER USE.

You know, we were discussing getting a PvP room, which of course would've had "dungeon" in the name (obvious guild is obvious). The plan was/is (it's still a possibility) to make it a place where anyone on server could come practice/learn new builds, get practice against certain builds, experiment with group comps, etc. The guild halls sound like they would eliminate the need for a PvP room in our scenerio, but it's pretty much one of the very few things they've released so far that I really like. So, I'm gonna need all the deetz before I commit. I may even wait a few weeks after the thing gets released to get honest impressions from friends (once things get settled and the hype finally dies down).

After more research there is not going to be a an 'expansion edition'. You have to buy it at that price which includes the core game.

I agree 50 bucks is way too high. WAY TOO HIGH. There isn't nearly enough content to warrant a $50 price tag. There just isn't. I'm not buying it right away. I'd rather protest.

Hey all. We're super happy to be launching pre-purchase of Heart of Thorns! We just want to let you know that $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it. There won’t be any other HoT editions, fyi.

I paid an amount equating to roughly 60 USD to get Guild Wars 2 in 2012. Now I have to pay 50 USD for Heart of Thorns, and the justification for the price is that it "includes the base game to make it easier for new players." Standard edition doesn't even include a free character slot for Revenant! That's ridiculous! ($50 is fine in itself, but it's the marketing that's got me angry)

This means that I, and all other players that have been loyal to ArenaNet from the start, pay at least 110 USD (plus another 10 for a character slot, making that 120 USD) for GW2 + HoT, while the new players only pay 50 USD for the same thing.

What does this say about NCSoft/ArenaNet? It says that they don't care about the welfare of their loyal fans; rather, they only care about squeezing as much money from those loyal fans as possible, while trying to get as many new players as possible to get more money from them as well. It's pure, shameless, disgusting, capitalism, and further justifies that pre-ordering is a terrible modus and we should all stop pre-ordering games. Seriously.

As a college student that wants to save my money, I am disgusted by this. I'll probably never buy anything from the gemstore again, and I'll might only buy Heart of Thorns when it goes on sale. GG.

Not including an extra character slot at that price point is just insult to injury. Like, "No, you can't have room to make the much-touted new class by buying the expansion, silly. You have to pay another $25 for that!" It'd be cheaper to buy the standard version and just pay for a new slot separately with gems/gold.

I honestly think someone should post on the official forums in protest. I'm sure a lot of people would agree. I get they need money to keep the servers up and stuff and keep it free. But this is so dumb and close to extortion. At least you can keep playing without buying the expansion, so its not exactly extortion. BUT UGH!

You know who i feel especially sorry for? Those people who just bought it (at full price) in anticipation for the expansion, only to find out they will have to pay another 50 bucks. They didn't have 3 years to enjoy it.

Can you imagine how much better the overall community response would be if it were $50 but with free character slots? I certainly wouldn't be as disappointed as I am.

Also, a lot of people bought the game recently at $40 with the intent of buying the Ex-pack later on, because their FAQ said that one needed the base game to play HoT. After pre-orders were announced, they promptly changed the FAQ.


Hell, can you get sued for this? I think you should.

According to this they will help out with those who just recently got the game and upgrade their purchases to prepurchase HoT but we will see if they follow through/if its true. Better be for their sake. I'll wait until they clarify and whatnot.

The price for the expansion ... I must say they are tempting but at the same time have to show restraint since Anet should at least offer a character slot with the standard version.

Blackthorn - Where else will you hold Lucent for his nightly BDSM session? I mean you already have him in a blindfold and mouth cover, unless home instances/WvW are enough. (ilulucentdontkillmeiamjustmessingwithyou)

So, they'll offer an upgrade for the game for people who bought it for $40 recently, but not offer a paid upgrade-only option for those of us who bought it for $60+ 3 years ago?

EDIT: This is wrong; they're not offering upgrades to people who bought GW2 for $40 recently (based on the now-revised FAQ statement that it was needed to play) HoT, but rather offering refunds so these people can get the $50 GW2 + HoT pre-order.
