Admittedly, it's not usually a big issue, but there have been plenty of times where I've been glancing over a party list or checking a target and have had to double-check to see if that teardrop-shaped thingy is an ele icon or an engineer icon. The proliferation of non-weight-restricted outfits doesn't help, nor does the flashy particle effect circus that is GW2 combat. I've wanted a new engie icon for literally years.

Plus my eyes are bad.

So yesterday we found out in a new blog that wvw players won't have to go into pve to earn hero points.
https://www.guildwar...world-vs-world/

Today they stated how many hero points you would need to completely unlock your elite specialization.

Quote

Unlocking your elite spec is a training line in your training panel that costs hero points. You do need to have trained all the existing training lines before you’re allowed to put hero points into your elite spec.
If you’ve got all the hero points in the existing game you’ll have enough to train about half the elite specialization training line on launch day. The rest you’ll need to earn in the jungle or via the new system Tyler outlined yesterday from WvW. The number of points to fully train your elite spec is higher than other training lines – but hero challenges in the jungle are worth 10 points each, so it’s not actually as big as it appears.

Quote

It’s 400 points total to unlock everything in an elite spec training line – I just can’t remember off hand how many points folks have currently if they have done all the existing ones, but it’s right around 200. The rest you’ll need to earn in jungle to unlock the deeper skills/traits/etc. in the training line.
You only need 60 hero points to begin using your elite spec, the points you spend after that continue to unlock more skills, traits, skins, etc.
Again, hero challenges are worth 10 points each in the jungle. So no you don’t need to go do 200-400 jungle challenges.

For wvw as you gain ranks you will get proofs that you can turn into the hero points. So 1 proof will get you 1 hero point from a normal hero challenge from tyria, 5 proofs will get you 10 hero points for a hero challenge from maguuma.

EDIT: just wanted to point out that Anet's blog says 5 proofs to get the maguuma challenges, when in game it is in fact 10 proofs... sigh arenanet...

We’ve also done a bit of re-work to better differentiate the icons between Scrapper, Tempest, Engineer and Elementalist
Can someone tell me why the fuck ANet was obligated to make new icons for the specializations?
I can't even tell what fucking class they are in the first place, and as someone who is NOT getting HoT I have no idea what a "specialization" is. I feel like they are making the game more complex. I liked it when it was just simple traits and classes, not this complex new system they integrated. If I wanted to put in strategic effort into a video game I'd play Starcraft or some shit. I play to wreck dragons and stomp my enemies into the ground, not to deal with a million different fucking builds and specializations that are not the slightest bit balanced. It seems like alot of games are just adding more and more shit in to impress their playerbase. Simple is better.

This video pretty much illustrates my reaction when ANet announces something new and unneccesary, but in a different context

Remember Guild Wars when it first came out? it was great, perfect in my view. Now it's basically a whole new game

Yeah I have no idea why they made separate icons for the new specs, they're still the old class, it's just a new spec. They could have used the old icons and highlighted it if they really wanted to tell the difference, but now everyone needs to learn 10 more icons. Not to mention the icons are not clear and simple as the old ones.

I agree up to a point.  GW2 was great on release, but it wasn't perfect.  Most of the changes they've made over the last three years have definitely been positive.  The feature packs with the wardrobe system, AoE looting, and shit like that all definitely improved the GW2 experience.  They've done a pretty good job with balance patches over that time, too, to be honest.  The meta that existed on 22nd June was really well balanced and really healthy all around; it'd be hard to argue it wasn't the best in the lifetime of the game.  But once they started the prelude to HoT crap on 23rd June, you're spot-on; GW2 basically ceased to exist, and we were all dragged into GW3 instead.  I enjoyed GW2 quite a bit more.

[DnT] is commonly called the top PvE guild in NA (I think KING/SC/etc are all EU) in the game when it comes to hardcore content. They host dungeon tournaments, post the "meta" PvE builds and explain them with actual numbers, and typically are pretty exclusive on membership. They're also the ones that have been begging for harder content since basically 3 months after release.

Just wanted to mention that DnT has been kicked out of future raid testing by Anet. I lol'd. :D

Their arrogance deserves what they got and more though - they profited by selling raid items due to their ability to clear it so soon...a direct result of their early access. It's an unfair economical advantage that they exploited and then made a mockery of. SOMETHING should be done to actually punish that.

I also just happen to dislike Nike. He's self-important ass who gets way more praise than he deserves for stating a bunch of obvious info. I know plenty of people who can play just as well as that fool.
