I barely walked into pve with the reaper i just wvwed and pvped so thanks for that.  I hear chill will be a dot on the defiant bar which was my only concern on pve other then the slowness of GS but sounds like it works.

Also what's with the dragon hunter hate?  I don't play guard I just hear a lot of noise, can someone summarise the issue?  Something around traps?

Not sure about chill and defiance bars, but overall, I think reaper will be able to hold its own in PvE.

I don't claim to be a guardian expert, we haven't had a ton of time to really tinker with the class, and it's a WIP anyhow, but all that being said, I think there are a few issues with DH:

(1) Traps aren't always so great in GW2's mobile, fast-paced combat.
(2) Guards don't have the innate mobility/hidey-hidey stealth of thieves (and rangers?) to enable them to get in, dump a trap, and get out again (though trapper runes could be interesting).
(3) Taking traps means giving up the mobility, condi cleanse, stability, burns, heals, etc. that you can get with the other utils.
(4) The traps themselves seemed kinda meh and not always worth giving up the aforementioned utils.
(5) DH longbow seemed really underwhelming. Also, the sound effect on the auto is annoying as hell.
(6) The traits also seemed underwhelming, though to be fair, I struggle with setting up synergistic guard builds anyhow, so that could just be me.

They announced Engi elite today. One thing had me saying WTF, well thats stupid, whats the point of that?

Sneak Gyro

Deploy a sneak gyro to provide stealth to nearby allies.
The scrapper’s elite utility provides a pulsing cloak field around it veiling you and your allies from enemies. The gyro itself remains visible.

Whats the point of going stealth if you can be spotted? O.o

Probably depends how long the pulse lasts and if you can stationary the gyro....also To break targeting i guess.  You would be limited to predicting ground location vs having an active target because as soon as it pulses stealth the targets gone.

I'm trying to reason an existence for that though.

I think to some extent, it's supposed to be sorta like shadow refuge or veil—i.e., you gain stealth, but the tradeoff is that people still know your general location at first. That being said, with SR and veil, the visible indicator of the ability does go away eventually. Keeping the gyro visible does seem kinda pointless. Maybe there's more to it than we know thus far.

Well its true. I suppose I was assuming its mobile and would follow you around or something. The article doesn't actually say whether its stationary or mobile. So I suppose I should hold off on further WTFs until there is further clearification. I am most interested in how it all works together.

It may also be more intended for groups rather than roaming.

Anyone who played the original Starcraft knows that Protoss ship (Arbiter) that would stealth everything but itself was amazing for concealing a large fleet or feinting with a small one. Of course, it also ported in your peeps.

Still, check out all the fun these guys are having. I expect this'll be you, Fraani, with your shiny new gyro. :)

Sounds like an Engineer version of Shadow Refuge.

I still can't quite believe that the ranger's Druid is the first elite spec they announced, and the last to get detailed...

Precursor/legendary crafting confirmed to require PvP.

This might be the most disappointing news I've ever read for the game.

Think about how the PvE-only crowd that constantly start new threads on the official forum to remove WvW exploration from map completion must feel.

They must identify with the stuffed animal you throw to a dog to keep it busy.

And you know, I can understand not wanting WvW map completion. Back when we were stuck in the same position against the same servers for month at a time, being unable to reach certain points of the map was ridiculous and frustrating. I'm glad they removed those maps from the 100% completion total.

But PvP is completely and utterly removed from everything myself and PvE/WvWs enjoy doing. It uses none of your personal progress, is balanced completely differently, and is focused around a single game mode that many of us just don't find enjoyable in the slightest. If I'm going to fight someone, it's going to be deathmatch, not some silly conquest circle-holding nonsense.

Anet seems to genuinely believe that their game is the next big e-sports thing and insists on trying to cram people into it at every turn. Frankly I wish they would piss off and keep it as separate as it has always been so that the PvPers can have their thing (and an alternate way of acquiring legendaries) and the rest of us can play what we enjoy as well.

I'm not a fan of sPvP in the game either.

While I don't actually mind having to do a little bit of everything in order to get legendary type stuff, there's no denying that it's an unpleasant grind when you have to do something you don't enjoy - especially when you can't just zone out while doing it.

People are just going to make custom arenas to farm for it anyway...I don't see what they think they will accomplish. Next thing you know they'll be trying to make people play in tournaments for crafting components lol

It's not so far fetched - I still have everything I've won from the various WvW tournaments sitting in the bank, minus the cost of a sword skin. I'm pretty sure those can be traded for components.

This is the slippery slope they always talk about when it comes to legalizing pot in the US!
