Charr are big and stinky and ugly.

While human women are shapely, smart, beautiful, smart, and good cooks--and smart, too!  (My mommy told me so).

Plus I have this picture of this unscrupulous and ugly charr glitching up the SM gate, so clearly they're all dirty, dirty cheaters.

Still, it was a silly fractals thing.  The charr should want research into Plains of Golghein (where Kalla Scorchrazor and the other legions handed the Gold Legion their collected asses) and Kiel should be all fall of abaddon--seeing as she's human and all.

But wait, if we go with the Abaddon fractal...does that mean Anet will be putting in Titans?  OH FUCK NO.  No more of that shit.  I am tired of those splitting bastards.

Ok so just a thought.

Character-wise, what happens either side?

Weighing up the options you have Ellen Kiel saving you a litttttllee bit of silver, realistically, not much. Even if Waypoint costs are reduced 90% for 4 weeks you pretty much have to spam Waypoint travel to get any real saving out of that. Meanwhile Evon wants to sell something at a discount which people shouldn't buy, so. Let's drop it as a fractal vote vs a character vote - TR vs Abba (calling him that for the lols).

What happens if Evon landslides because only informed people vote and decided they want to see Abba (get it? i made a political joke - informed voters!)? Well it's not like they're going to toss Ellen and you never see her again ... sure she won't make the council or whatever, but I'd be willing to bet she'll still be a key character in more living story content. So for those who don't like her, too bad. For those that do, you don't actually HAVE to vote for her to see her again anyway.
Evon? He loses vote, he goes back to AFKing in LA in the corner instead of at the kool-kids wooden deck.

....and with that my own personal conclusion is to vote Evon because Abba > TR any day of the week.

Edit: One thing I did forget to mention is that I haven't automatically 'ruled out' TR. If you think about the little we know about the steam creature things and the bonus champ boss @ TR after Fire Ele ... safe to say TR could be very interesting.... BUT the fall of a god is still about a bajillion times cooler than an alternate universe where steam creatures are invading from.

I'm more concerned about what the implications are for Lion's Arch and so on in general, seeing how Anet is trying to portray Evon as somewhat greedy, money-driven, and he does hold control over our economy as players. I like to believe there will be significant effects on the world, and OUR world as well, else what else would this election be for, just something fancy to play around with?

I think it will have significance in the future, as we see living stories and stuff getting more and more complex and developed. Having read Sea of Sorrows and understanding the foundation and concept of Lion's Arch being a sanctuary free from rigid legal and financial systems, for all races and defending against the threats of dragons or external forces, I would rather protect what Cobiah Marinner first established and put my trust in Kiel especially since she has shown that she stands for "what is good" as far as Anet is concerned because of the way they have portrayed her in the stories we've been involved in. Evon hasn't gotten much light and from the scenes we see, Evon is portrayed as somewhat the "villain".

That said, even if Evon wins, like Reya said, Kiel won't disappear and will probably continue to fight against Evon. (Though this probably is vice versa, as in if Kiel is elected, Evon might still be present, it wouldn't make sense and would be inconsistent if they removed Evon again) However, as a "citizen" of LA and this game, and you know i am ACTUALLY a citizen cuz i AFK in LA all the time rofl, I am actually concerned and want "good" to prevail. call me naive or idealistic, but i really don't want someone who doesn't prioritize the good of all people, and the community, rather focused on furthering financial gain and power, to have a position of more power...

Who knows what Anet has cooked up in the future. I'm more willing to put my trust in Kiel. A legit decision, rather than based on WP prices, Fractals or whatever temporary content I don't really care about. I'd much rather direct the world and lore of Tyria towards a better place

i get the concern for the in-game environment. i'm skeptical that this decision will actually have any real impact on the course of the world beyond the immediate choices*.

*insofar as what the developers go with - if ellen is voted in she'll be used as the front for what the developers do, but how do you know they weren't already doing that? or couldn't do that exact same story course with Evon?
*another example. if this is a 'choose your own adventure' how do you know the different choices actually go in different directions? what if all the choices (maybe after 1 or 2 different steps) actually go in the same direction since the developer is behind it not us and they're just giving us this immediate 'choice' only - much like the personal story leading up to zhaitan, minor deviation but all to the same end.

there's 2 dev posts in the official forums at the moment which pretty obviously state that Evon is the 'evil' choice, Ellen would be the 'good' choice.... and that they're intending the community to vote past the immediate rewards of discounts/fractals ....

...and on that note, does it matter? again i understand your concern about influencing the world of Tyria for the better BUT we're talking about Lion's Arch - not Divinity's Reach, not The Grove, not The Pact ...
Lion's Arch is absolutely a suitable place for Evon to win into the council and be as devious and evil as he wants - if he steps too far he might get punished ... and if he doesn't then we live it up in evil-town while The Pact continue to be the good guys.

So again, given the available information and my doubts about how much it matters. Hail Abba?

PS: not trying to have a go at you Reina Takayama, or tell you you're 'wrong' or anything ... just keeping open discussion :D

Yeah, I also believe its all just speculation right now, so that said, i prefer with the safer "good" choice lol, that's just me. Ultimately, as people say, it's just a game, its just Lion's Arch etc, but im a sucker for lore and so on, and knowing what Lion's Arch is founded on, I feel a belonging and sense of patriotism towards those original ideals, and I wish to defend it. So just in case, I would prefer Kiel to win, so we don't get a "evil-town". But there's another side of me which thinks it might be interesting, or else, it'd just be like happy go lucky, paradise sort of thing, which gets boring... though on the other hand if Kiel did win, Evon might be doing stuff that will have some villainous developments anyway... while if evon wins and it does do a "evil-town" twist, then Kiel might be fighting back anyway...

So, guess it doesn't matter, but instinctively, i would prefer it goes with the safer route to stay true to what Lion's Arch is supposed to represent

On the other hand, I do respectfully disagree with the idea that it would be okay if its Divinity's Reach or whatever, I think Lion's Arch stands for much more than what those racial cities would represent. It is actually essentially the first time in the new races era that races worked together in collaboration to 1) build up the city 2) defend its people and land against Zhaitan 3) representing the first time a Pact-like effort rose up. Without this effort in the first place, we might still have years of war and conflicts between races. Lion's Arch has become a place where the different races can interact and get to understand each other and differences, while there are still conflicts and fights, it still contributes to harmony (all this of course in lore speak). Lion's Arch built by grassroots shipwrecked, homeless sailors and pirates who wanted to create a safe haven for themselves and just to survive and stay independent... as well as the more abstract idea of being free from a system, in a sense, this includes being free from financial burden and control of bourgeois economy. (which is against Evon's likely perspective) I think that resonates with much of our values and beliefs in our society and world now, to have that individual freedom as the grassroots people. I think its necessary for me to defend those ideals and values

and PS No worries at all, i didn't take it as such! Discussion is great

...correct me if i'm wrong here, i think you're a bit more buff on the lore than i am, but I thought LA was just an open city founded by pirates with no affiliations?

the charr/human peace talks (and potential disruption) seems heavily concentrated elsewhere ... like fields of ruin ...
also, practically speaking, The Pact have no affiliation there really .. they have their own bases in 3 different locations and then a central fortress @ Orr.

I was under the impression LA was still a kind of 'ffa' city which hadn't changed that much from its founding origins ... central player hub might make that 'feel' or 'seem' different.

PS: i didn't mean it'd be 'ok' if it was divinity's reach or w/e ... i mean thematically for that city it'd make sense for it to be Ellen, no discussion there. likewise with the Grove ... those cities already have the 'Good' theme? whereas LA seems more chaotic and unaffiliated to anything but I get what you're saying @ the 'hub'ness

Well if you put it super simply you can say its founded by pirates or whatever but that's disregarding a lot of background, as explained in detail in the novel Sea of Sorrows.

Spoiler

In the novel there were often many cultural and racial clashes between charr and human especially but under the situations of imminent danger of the Risen and under Marriners leadership they set aside their differences in collaboration to survive

Nevertheless, LA is built on very strong and noble visions, driven at the base by survival but becoming a stance for united multicultural effort against a common enemy, defense of its own community and values, and striving for prosperity and harmony as well as it can. Essentially they are trying to say this came about because of the offensive of Zhaitan, and also the culture of real seafaring folk. While it is not an outright on paper alliance like the Pact, it is an unsaid social etiquette and general atmosphere and vision of the city that creates the whole "peace" or unity between races

Sooo all that said, I cannot call them pirates. Nor was the city created for smuggling, piracy, illegal activities even tho some of those things happened anyway cuz diff people just come and go
