I'm trying to be optimistic that GW3 is going to be a good game, but that doesn't make me any happier about GW2 being destroyed.  Since I don't see any realistic chance that ANet will see reason and release this shit as a separate new game and leave the current awesome GW2 alone, it's time to start thinking about other games, though, and GW3 is as good as any.

Necro was uncomfortably stagnant I feel, but I like that they condensed some of the more lackluster traits all into one decent one. Spectral skills might see a little more use now, but then again about everyone runs spectral walk or spectral armor haha

Mesmer is going to be terrifying. Considering that I already take illusionary persona from the illusions traitline, having IP for free now will be beyond a breath of fresh air. Adding that in with passive illusionary elasticity so I can get an extra bounce on mirror blade? Ouch. Additionally, with the removal of those damn stat linked traitlines now I won't be sitting on top of a whopping 300 condie damage that I do absolutely nothing with but look at my clones and think "do bleeds?". I'll take power instead, thanks.


Some of these will be insanely OP and anet will have to deal with SO much balance once they do all of this. What I only hope is that instead of releasing a balance patch every 3-4 weeks they keep very on top of the balance during the initial stages of the system's launch.

Before we go saying that Necro is fucked, or isn't as overpowered as some of the other traits seem to be, just wait till we have info on the whole elite specialization deal, the one that grants the ever so coveted greatsword. Lets hope that one isn't too cringe-worthy and more importantly, lets hope that it is the specialization that they cover next week!

The HoT game looks so different that I find it hard to want to log in to the current GW2 build. My fundamental motivation is to play has always been to get better, but what's the point if the skills I am developing are only marginally relevant to where the game is going to be (soon?).

I agree with everyone who has stated that this will take months to balance.

Yeah, gonna take months for people to re-learn the HoT skill/trait/gear system so I see no point in improving my current builds or personal skill. At this point, I'm either just doing large-scale WvW or farming gold so I can afford whatever changes I'll need to make to all my characters after HoT comes out.

I was seriously considering (finally) starting an ascended set for my main, but it looks like I can put off that crafting hell for a while longer. No point in making gear until we know more about how traits/stats//specializations will work.

Similar to mesmers - I find it ironic that the devs said they'd be a more "skill based" class, when if you ask me half the changes they made to mesmer puts their power level through the roof.

Classes should be exactly equal at the highest skill level. There's no point in saying, "This class can be stronger because it's harder to play"; players will always reach the ceiling. I often think Anet really does not understand the word "balance".

My inner Homura fanboi is pleased. I'm incurably bad at mesmer, but I will still be all over this even though I can already hear myself complaining about how mesmers are even more of a PITA to fight.

Feels like they are directing thieves into the Shadow Arts tree, which will make me sad... but I agree that we'll have to see.

Mhm.. The three builds I have seen proposed all have Shadow Arts and Trickery.

6,0,6,0,6 P/D Trap/Condi.
6,0,6,0,6 D/P Berserk.
0,0,6,6,6 S/D Evasive.

But we'll see what happens.

Exactly my point. None of them sound that fun to play. I'll probably try 60066 or 66006 power because I don't want to play "hide and seek", but I am pretty sure I am going to have to up my game a couple of notches to pull it off outside of a coordinated team.

PvP will have less SA due to it being detrimental.

Though the new line is waiting to be dropped and it could throw everything in disarray

PvP meta will be 6/0/6/0/6 with Devourer Venom (with SR and a stunbreak) with trait support.  It's D/P Panic Strike on steroids, and it sounds fun enough to me.

Yes it's much stronger but the question is will it be strong enough.

Well, we still don't know what the Elite Specialisations will bring to the meta, and all these hypotheticals are predicated on the idea of fitting these new builds into something resembling the current meta.  But setting those issues aside, the Thief's role in the meta with that build will be every bit as unassailable as it is currently.

If you seriously think Thieves are going to play something other than a zerker build, then you really don't understand the sPvP meta at all.  Thieves do specific jobs for which no other class has the mechanics to replace them, and those are jobs for a zerker class.

Hardly my most-played class--playstyle has never really been the best fit for me, although venomshare does suit me better--but I have got like 300 hours on my Thief.
