Well, good news for all the people who hate all the warriors packing hammers... there are a couple of changes that make hammer less optimal than it is now. I could see some warriors running a hammer and physical skills (cc utilities) to apply a bunch of confusion with every cc, but there will still be fewer hammer warriors out there.
Swords, shields, axes, and dual wielding just got more interesting. There are also lots of condition and damage goodies stretched across the different trait lines with a number of interesting paths for both, which I predict will lead to greater build diversity. In fact, I think swords are going to become the cornerstone of a diverse array of wvw builds... though not optimal for damage, the bleeds, block, leap will synergize with traits all over those lines better than the other weapons do. Then again, I see plenty of excellent weapon combos there that don't use a sword at all (e.g. I like what I see for gs/lb and gs/m+sh there, with a couple different approaches for each).
Warriors will still be at a serious disadvantage if they don't take the discipline line for the -5 second cooldown on weapon swap unless changes to skills make sticking on one more viable (like it is for eles (obviously), thieves and mesmers).
Of course, big questions remain about how much the skills and gear will change. It's hard to imagine optimizing most of the builds I can string together using just three attributes above base stats (from gear), but opponents will likely have to face the same dilemma so maybe it doesn't matter. Changes to heal skills and elites (especially classifying them so they benefit traits) are going to go a long way toward increasing the diversity of skills on the right side of the skill bar. I'll no longer feel compelled to run Berserker Stance, for one.
Gear will become so important that I shudder to think at the cost of maintaining several alts with any kind of diversity. Tbh, I'd love to see changes to the gear system that allow people to swap runes and stat arrays easily rather than having to cram inventories with multiple gear/rune sets for multiple characters, but I haven't heard anything to indicate that's even being considered.
Still, I'm somewhat optimistic about these changes and not particularly worried about the inevitable chaos when they're first implemented.
