I finally a gd grp and we beat VG first raid boss with 20 sec or so on timer left haha.

Got to gorseval, tried it twice but the gliders bugged on us on 2nd try so a lot of grp got suicidal killed and I had to go anyways.

To be fair, it does make a certain amount of sense to have them be character-bound. :P

Also, they removed the proofs from the bonus chests, but they also "significantly increased" the number of proofs you get from the normal rank-up chests. I'm not sure what the point is, but I'm guessing it'll work out to be about the same number in the end.

Silvers I got 79 un-usable hp on my war am not gonna be able to wvw/eotm when others benefited more from the hps...:(

Yeah, its awful. I feel like i want to be in wvw contributing but i usually play all my chars there equally (except mesmer and thief, my morals will not allow me to stealth in a fight...jk for you mez/teef mains....well..ermm)
Anywho, If i need heropoints i now have to go back out into pve-land and again i become morally conflicted because pve is for the weak of heart.
Why ANET, WHYYYY??? Did you not give tomes of knowledge (which i now have like 180 unusable ones just sitting in my bank, taking up good space that bloodstone dust or emperial whatchamacallits could use) which was usable for alts and actually had a use prior to HoT?
Oh, the humanity.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not seeing the problem. As I understand it, you can still collect hero points from WvW, you just need to WvW with the actual character that needs them (which isn't terribly unreasonable, IMO).

I think the idea is that some chars you want to play in wvw with their specialty or you feel hampered or ill-equipped without it...almost like bringing a filthy uplevel there.
If you don't already have it, you want to get it first before taking it actually into wvw, ya know?

Well, fair enough. :) Still, it's not really any different from leveling a character without tomes. It's not unfair for the elite specs to require some effort to fully unlock. I'm just glad they reduced the number of HPs required—400 was kinda unreasonable.

The effort is the same either way--it's just that now, you have to put in that effort whilst playing with one hand tied behind your back.  This change would be reasonable if the new builds and the old builds were in balance with one another, but they're not.  And it's fine that they're not--they wanted to completely reset the meta, and for the most part, it's worked out well.  But if the new specs are needed for the only competitive builds, then it seems a bit excessive to force us to play with our obsolete builds on every single character.  Especially for those of us who have two or three of each class.

So leagues have been...interesting to say the least.  When solo queuing teams seem to be a bit all over, duo Q or 3 man Q seems to be a sweet spot unless you have a full 5 man and you know your party members are close to or above your skill level, but even then you could get stuck with someone that doesn't know what they are doing to win and just randomly fights people.  I'm in tier 4 of emerald atm and should be sapphire by the weekend.

On another note, how's everyone been?  I haven't been paying attention to guild chat much lately other then to ask people if they want to pvp some :P. Find any good money making strategies, my wife and I found a pretty decent way to get money reliably but it's pretty boring :/

stuck in pvp win one loose one I cant advance...fun stuff tho some of the battles have been fun the leveling of division tiers is starting to frustrate me, putting more time into pvp then ever and yet time wasted in terms of league ranking.

I dunno. I think I'd be more interested in PvP if they took a page from TF2's book and offered modes besides conquest, like sequential control points or payload races or capture the flag. No, stronghold doesn't count. Some sort of anti-class stacking mechanism would be nice, too.

In other news, my usual Saturday evening cold is still lingering, and I've been feeling generally crappy the past several days. :-/

If you wanna duo Q sanji let me know we can get on ts and it will increase your win chances a ton just having two people in voice comm.  It's mostly how I've gotten so far with the little playtime I have, duo and trio Qing with koshi and a irl friend. I'll probably end up in the mist again tonight sometime so if you wanna pvp let me know :)

You don't like stronghold over conquest silvers?  I tend to prefer stronghold since its more wvw type fighting rather then fighting for cap points.  If you play it right it should be over in like 5 minutes, most people stretch it out a lot longer then it needs to be.  Also, get well.  We just had a cold sweep through the house ourselves and it hit all of us pretty hard :/

I don't really like either, tbh. Conquest has always felt kinda aimless to me. Yes, you get points by holding stuff, and yes, there are strategic decisions to be made about capping/holding, but that's about it. The control points don't really change up the flow of the match. To bring up TF2 again, I like the maps where red has to defend one point while blue attacks; if blue caps it, then red has to retreat and defend a second point while blue has to advance to attack it. I'd love to see something similar in GW2. The current mechanic of capping something and then having it passively tick points has always seemed pretty meh.

Stronghold...bleh. I only did one round, and frankly, I've no desire to do it again. I hate MOBA-style mechanics.

Fair enough, I'm not a huge fan of conquest and wish there was some capture the flag or something similar or a map like you described but those will never be in ranked even if they made them :/ There's a few classes that are just broken atm in spvp for conquest specifically like heralds or revs in general, bunker mesmer is stupidly broken(tanking half their team for a good bit is kinda ridiculous but very fun :D) and tempests are just a nightmare to kill.

On another note about leagues, I want those wings!  Cuz, ya know....

I've given up hope that they'll ever make PvP maps that I would actually enjoy. It took them three years to come up with something besides conquest—not counting the cramped cluster that is Courtyard—and all we got was a MOBA knockoff. Even if they did make CTF or offense/defense maps, they wouldn't know how to balance them. [/grumblegrumble]

I'm well into Sapphire on 100% solo queues, and I haven't even had much time to play this week.  Mechanically, it's not that hard to carry solo queues, but you need to have a deep understanding of the Conquest game mode.

GW2's PvP is designed and balanced around Conquest; it's always going to be the heart of sPvP.  It's an incredibly deep game mode, which demands a lot of game knowledge and strong critical reasoning skills under pressure.  PvP in GW2 wouldn't have anywhere near the success it has had so far if it were played on any other game mode.  But that depth and nuance can be a barrier for players who don't put in the energy to really learn the game mode.  When WvW'ers describe Conquest, they always end up giving horribly inadequate caricatures, and that flawed understanding of the gameplay leads to bad gameplay decisions, which in turn make it much harder to win.  

What you have to understand is that Conquest isn't really about the nodes.  It's about winning the fights.  But the nodes mean that there are three fights happening in parallel.  The trick is to figure out how to deploy your resources to give you an advantage in those fights.  That means knowing matchups.  Obviously you need to know what you can and can't beat 1v1, but that's far from sufficient.  Not only do you need to know what everyone else can or can't beat 1v1, but you also need to know what combinations make for favourable or unfavourable 2v2's, or 3v3's, or 4v4's.  Then you need to be able to quickly look at a situation and figure out what you can do to try to maximise favourable matchups and minimise unfavourable matchups across the map for your team.  And you also need to remember all THIS stuff.
